WMI Temporary Event Subscription Creation
This analytic detects the creation of WMI temporary event subscriptions by monitoring Windows Event Log EventCode 5860. Attackers frequently leverage WMI for command execution, information gathering, and persistence on compromised systems. The detection identifies these activities, which, if malicious, could lead to arbitrary code execution, privilege escalation, or persistent access. Analysts should investigate the WMI queries to determine their intent, being mindful of potential false positives from legitimate administrative tasks. The rule specifically excludes known benign WMI subscriptions related to `wsmprovhost.exe` and antivirus/firewall/antispyware product monitoring.
