The following analytic detects taskkill.exe being launched with a process ID (/pid) argument by an executable that resides directly within
a user profile folder, such as the Downloads or Desktop folder. Filtering for parent processes located two to three directory levels deep
under root folder. This activity is significant because browser hijackers and adware droppers executed from the Downloads folder forcefully
terminate the running browser by PID so that they can modify its profile and relaunch it with their own settings. If confirmed malicious, this
could allow an attacker to tamper with browser preference files, side-load extensions and redirect the victim's browsing traffic.

Detects command-line execution of script interpreters (PowerShell, CMD, MSHTA) spawned via Windows Explorer containing download primitives and URLs, followed by immediate external network connections.
Detects Microsoft Word (winword.exe) spawning the Windows command shell (cmd.exe) to execute batch scripts (.bat or .cmd files). This behavior is commonly associated with malicious document macros attempting to drop and execute secondary payloads, excluding common system paths to reduce false positives.
Detects node or agent-initiated npm installation commands (such as npm install or npm i) executed within 24 hours of creating or modifying a developer assistant instruction file (such as AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, .cursorrules) in common user directories like Downloads, Desktop, or Temp.
Detects instances where web server processes or PHP interpreters (apache2, httpd, php-fpm, php) spawn a shell process (sh, bash, dash). This behavior is often indicative of post-exploitation activity such as remote code execution (RCE) via PHP session upload progress or web shell activity.
Sweeps endpoint telemetry for known IOCs from the trojanized anthropic.claude-code (Open-VSX v2.1.313) SSH backdoor: C2 IP 134.209.82.225, beacon URL, extension.js and tunnel key SHA-256 hashes, and ifconfig.me lookups from VS Code-family/extension-host processes. Results are summarized per device and IOC.

Detects WinRAR or 7-Zip extracting an archive with a hard-coded password supplied via command line from a cmd.exe batch parent, using switch patterns associated with the RareWolf AnyDesk dropper.
Detects the execution of tooling routed through a reverse SOCKS5 pivot via wrappers such as via_socks.sh, proxychains4 with a SOCKS5 configuration, or LD_PRELOAD injection of libproxychains.so.
Detects the execution of Salat Stealer C2-pushed scripts involving the disabling of recovery environment via reagentc.exe and UAC disabling via registry modification on the same device within one hour.
Detects the execution of fsquirt.exe spawned by INISAFECrossWebEXSvc.exe where fsquirt.exe subsequently loads an unsigned or untrusted DLL, indicative of a potential TechHub DLL side-loading technique.
Detects PaperCut server processes (such as pc-app.exe, pc-server.exe, or Java running PaperCut) spawning command shells or utility binaries associated with credential dumping, internal reconnaissance, or pivoting.
Detects the execution of known Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) tools within a 30-minute window following Microsoft Teams network activity on the same device, which can be an indicator of unauthorized remote access or interactive command and control setup via remote support applications.
Detects the deployment of the ARTEX AI penetration testing framework via Docker/Docker-compose combined with the execution of offensive security and scanning tools (such as nmap, sqlmap, nuclei, httpx, apktool, frida) on the same host within a specified timeframe.
Detects execution of BlackX UEFI bootkit installer components, renamed helper binaries acting as payloads (such as jcef_helper.exe renamed to googleupdate.exe), or known malicious file hashes associated with BlackX campaigns.
Detects the execution of OpenConnect VPN clients on non-sanctioned devices followed within a 4-hour window by high-volume internal network connections across multiple ports indicative of network service discovery or pivoting activity.
Detects rundll32.exe creating a named pipe and subsequently establishing an SMB (port 445) connection to a private IP address within a 10-minute window, indicative of potential lateral movement or internal reconnaissance.
Detects the staging of wmpdmc.exe and wmpdui.dll together within a ProgramData folder, as well as subsequent scheduled task creation or execution of wmpdmc.exe from ProgramData associated with the Yoba campaign.
Detects the Yoba campaign behavior involving the staging of wmpdmc.exe along with wmpdui.dll or ampdui.dll in the ProgramData\WMProcess directory, followed by execution or invocation via scheduled tasks.
Detects a PaperCut server Java process spawning a local account creation or local administrators group addition, followed closely by Active Directory domain or computer enumeration from the same host within a 30-minute window.
Detects a sequence where PowerShell downloads an .msi installer file from Azure Blob Storage, followed closely by msiexec.exe spawning a PowerShell process on the same device.
