The following analytic detects potential RDP Hijacking attempts by identifying the creation of a Windows service using sc.exe with a binary path that includes tscon.exe. This detection leverages data from Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents, focusing on process creation events and command-line arguments. This activity is significant as it indicates an attacker may be trying to hijack a disconnected RDP session, posing a risk of unauthorized access. If confirmed malicious, the attacker could gain control over an existing user session, leading to potential data theft or further system compromise.
The following analytic detects the creation or modification of Windows services using the sc.exe command. It leverages data from Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents, focusing on process names and command-line arguments. This activity is significant because manipulating Windows services can be a method for attackers to establish persistence, escalate privileges, or execute arbitrary code. If confirmed malicious, this behavior could allow an attacker to maintain long-term access, disrupt services, or gain control over critical system functions, posing a severe threat to the environment.
Detects the HazyBeacon backdoor, which leverages AWS Lambda URLs for C2 communication and uses custom tools for data exfiltration. The rule identifies known malicious file hashes, suspicious tool drops in C:\ProgramData, specific service creation commands for persistence, and network connections from the sideloaded host process (mscorsvw.exe) to AWS Lambda URLs.
Detects TTPs associated with the HazyBeacon backdoor, used by the threat cluster CL-STA-1020. This rule identifies the creation of a specific persistence service and the execution of custom exfiltration tools from the C:\ProgramData directory. This threat also uses C2 communication via AWS Lambda URLs (e.g., *.lambda-url.*.on.aws) from the mscorsvw.exe process, which should be monitored via network logs.
This detection identifies when Microsoft Copilot Studio agents are created in your organization's tenant. This activity is significant as the default behavior in Copilot agent creation is to configure a new service principal with cloud app administrator role.
Copilot agents can be found in the Microsoft Admin Portal https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home#/copilot/agents

Detects potentially malicious or suspicious launchd entries that are not part of the default macOS system, often used for persistence. This rule is designed to be applied to Plaso output.
KQL Query from file: Detecting Copilot Studio Bot Creation
KQL Query from file: psexecsvc.py detection
KQL Query from file: Remote Service Creation followed by SMB tranfer
This query looks for signs of impacket psexec module usage. May hit other psexec-like techniques too.

'This hunting query looks for new Service Principals running queries that have not previously been seen running queries.'
This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, EvilQuest signals the rise of Mac ransomware.
As of the time of this writing (October 2020), ransomware designed to target macOS is relatively rare. EvilQuest is one of the few examples of this kind of malware on the platform.
The query below can detect events associated with the launch of the EvilQuest executable, questd, from the shell.
Other queries related to EvilQuest ransomware can be found under the See also section below.

Description:.
The query looks for several different MITRE techniques, grouped by risk level.
A weighting is applied to each risk level and a total score calculated per machine.
Techniques can be added/removed as required.

Use this query to look for alerts related to suspected ransomware and Cobalt Strike activity, a tool used in numerous ransomware campaigns
This query is looking for rarely seen processes which are launched as a service.

Detects the installation of the Mesh Agent service, which is commonly used for remote computer management. This rule specifically looks for Windows Event ID 7045 from the Service Control Manager, indicating a service installation, and then checks if the service's image path contains 'MeshAgent.exe' or if the service name contains 'Mesh Agent'.
This rule detects the installation of the TacticalRMM agent service on a Windows system. It specifically looks for Event ID 7045 from the 'Service Control Manager' provider, indicating a service installation, and then checks if the 'ImagePath' contains 'tacticalrmm.exe' or the 'ServiceName' contains 'TacticalRMM Agent Service'. TacticalRMM is a legitimate remote monitoring and management (RMM) tool, but it can be abused by adversaries for remote access and control.
Detects a Mesh Agent service installation. Mesh Agent is used to remotely manage computers
Detects a TacticalRMM service installation. Tactical RMM is a remote monitoring & management tool.
Detects creation of new Kubernetes service account, which could indicate an attacker's attempt to persist within a cluster.
The following analytic detects the creation of a Windows Service with a known suspicious or malicious name using Windows Event ID 7045. It leverages logs from the `wineventlog_system` to identify these services installations. This activity is significant as adversaries, including those deploying Clop ransomware, often create malicious services for lateral movement, remote code execution, persistence, and execution. If confirmed malicious, this could allow attackers to maintain persistence, execute arbitrary code, and potentially escalate privileges, posing a severe threat to the environment.
