The following analytic detects the execution of `arp.exe` with the `-a` flag, which is used to list network connections on a compromised system. This detection leverages data from Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) agents, focusing on process names, command-line executions, and related telemetry. Monitoring this activity is significant because both Red Teams and adversaries use `arp.exe` for situational awareness and Active Directory discovery. If confirmed malicious, this activity could allow attackers to map the network, identify active devices, and plan further lateral movement or attacks.

This rule detects two distinct but related network-based adversary-in-the-middle (AiTM) techniques. The first part identifies ARP spoofing by looking for the same IP address being claimed by multiple MAC addresses within a short time frame, which can indicate an attacker is attempting to intercept local network traffic. The second part detects TLS certificate pinning failures, which can occur when an attacker attempts to perform a man-in-the-middle attack by presenting an untrusted or modified TLS certificate to a client that expects a specific certificate (pinning). This is often indicative of an attempt to intercept or decrypt encrypted network communications.

This rule detects the execution of common Windows command-line utilities used for system network configuration discovery. Adversaries often use these commands to gather information about the network environment, including IP addresses, network interfaces, ARP tables, NetBIOS information, and routing tables. The specific commands monitored are 'ipconfig /all', 'netsh interface show interface', 'arp -a', 'nbtstat -n', 'net config', and 'route print'.

Detects potential remote code execution associated with the exploitation of Oracle E-Business Suite vulnerability CVE-2025-61882 on Windows hosts. The rule looks for a Java process spawning a command shell to execute reconnaissance commands, followed by an outbound network connection from the same Java process within a short time frame. This behavior is consistent with post-exploitation activity observed in the campaign.

Use this query to find reconnaissance and beaconing activities after code injection occurs.
Reconnaissance commands are consistent with the current version of Qakbot and occur automatically to exfiltrate system information. This data, once exfiltrated, will be used to prioritize human operated actions.

The following analytic detects suspicious system network configuration discovery activities, which may indicate an adversary's attempt to gather information about the network environment. Such actions typically involve commands or tools used to identify network interfaces, routing tables, and active connections. Detecting these activities is crucial, as they often precede more targeted attacks like lateral movement or data exfiltration. By identifying unusual or unauthorized network discovery efforts, this analytic helps security teams to swiftly detect and respond to potential reconnaissance operations, mitigating the risk of further compromise.

The following analytic identifies instances where four or more distinct detection analytics are associated with malicious command line behavior on a specific host. This detection leverages the Command Line Interface (CLI) data from various sources to identify suspicious activities. This behavior is significant as it often indicates attempts to execute malicious commands, access sensitive data, install backdoors, or perform other nefarious actions. If confirmed malicious, attackers could gain unauthorized control, exfiltrate information, escalate privileges, or launch further attacks within the network, leading to severe compromise.

The analytic identifies potential enumeration of local network configuration on Linux systems. It detects this activity by monitoring processes such as "arp," "ifconfig," "ip," "netstat," "firewall-cmd," "ufw," "iptables," "ss," and "route" within a 30-minute window. This behavior is significant as it often indicates reconnaissance efforts by adversaries to gather network information for subsequent attacks. If confirmed malicious, this activity could enable attackers to map the network, identify vulnerabilities, and plan further exploitation or lateral movement within the environment.

This rule detects attempts to enumerate remote systems on a macOS host using the 'arp' and 'ping' utilities. Specifically, it looks for 'arp -a' commands, which list all current ARP entries, and 'ping' commands targeting common private IP address ranges (10.0.0.0/8, 192.168.0.0/16, 172.16.0.0/12) as well as localhost (127.0.0.0/8) and APIPA (169.254.0.0/16) ranges. This activity is indicative of an adversary performing network discovery to identify other systems for potential lateral movement.
