Detects suspicious command-line executions involving common Windows system binaries (rundll32.exe, mshta.exe, certutil.exe, wmic.exe) when they contain keywords indicative of network communication or data transfer (http, https, base64, /transfer). This pattern is often observed in malware or adversary techniques to download payloads, exfiltrate data, or execute remote code.
Detects the use of certutil.exe to download files from a remote URL using the -urlcache or -split flags. This behavior is a common Living-off-the-Land (LotL) technique used by adversaries to bypass security controls and download secondary payloads.
Detects the use of certutil.exe with command-line arguments indicative of downloading files from a URL or decoding/encoding data. This utility is often abused by adversaries for ingress tool transfer or obfuscation.
This rule broadly hunts for instances where legitimate Microsoft update binaries (like mobsync.exe, w3wp.exe, certutil.exe, or svchost.exe) load unknown DLLs from non-standard directories, indicating potential DLL sideloading.
Detects certutil.exe being used to download an MSI file. This activity is often associated with adversaries using living-off-the-land binaries (LOLBINs) to download malicious payloads.
This rule detects the execution of Living Off The Land Binaries (LOLBins) such as certutil.exe, msiexec.exe, regsvcs.exe, regasm.exe, rundll32.exe, cscript.exe, and wscript.exe, when their command lines contain keywords indicative of malicious activity like 'download', 'encode', 'decode', 'http', 'ftp', or 'javascript'. It specifically filters out executions originating from explorer.exe or svchost.exe to reduce false positives and triggers when two or more such events occur within an hour on the same computer by the same user.
Detects suspicious command-line executions indicative of potential malicious activity, including the use of certutil for encoding/decoding, bitsadmin for transfers, and various PowerShell command invocations. This rule monitors process creation events (EventID 4688) for specific command-line patterns that are often abused by adversaries for tasks such as file transfer, execution, or obfuscation.
Detects the execution of certutil.exe with command-line flag that can be used to interact with Active Directory Certificate Services, potentially for malicious purposes such as certificate theft or abuse.

Detects the execution of known Living-off-the-Land Binaries (LOLBins) such as certutil.exe, msiexec.exe, regsvcs.exe, and regasm.exe when their command line contains suspicious keywords like 'download', 'http', or 'encode'. This activity can indicate an attempt to download malicious payloads or bypass security controls.
Detects certutil abuse for payload download or base64 decode

Detects the creation of a file on a server system by common network utilities (curl, ftp, powershell, winscp, certutil) within a 5-minute window of a network connection to common ports (21, 22, 80, 443). This could indicate ingress tool transfer or data exfiltration attempts.
Detects suspicious payload execution or unexpected child processes spawning directly from the IIS worker process (w3wp.exe), which is a common indicator of web shell activity or exploit payload execution on vulnerable IIS instances.
Detects suspicious command-line executions involving common Windows system binaries (rundll32.exe, mshta.exe, certutil.exe, wmic.exe) combined with keywords often associated with network communication or data transfer (http, https, base64, /transfer). This pattern can indicate attempts at downloading malicious payloads, exfiltrating data, or executing encoded commands.
This rule detects HTTP traffic where the User-Agent header contains the string 'CertUtil' (case-insensitive). This pattern is often associated with adversaries using the Windows built-in utility CertUtil to download malicious payloads, a common technique for defense evasion.
This rule detects the creation of scheduled tasks (`schtasks.exe /create`) where the command line arguments contain suspicious executables or paths commonly associated with malicious activity. This indicates a potential persistence mechanism being established by an adversary.
Detects the usage of certutil.exe to download files, or encode/decode data. This behavior is commonly associated with Living Off The Land Binaries (LOLBins) exploitation to bypass security controls.

Detects Cursor IDE spawning download utilities or LOLBins commonly used for
payload staging. Directly maps to the CursorJack technique where a malicious
MCP deeplink encodes a command that downloads and executes a remote payload.
Low false-positive rate — these child processes have no legitimate use when
launched directly by Cursor.
