This rule detects suspicious access attempts to the registry key associated with the Azure AD Health monitoring agent. It specifically looks for Event IDs 4656 (handle to an object was requested) or 4663 (an attempt was made to access an object) on the registry key '\REGISTRY\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Online\Reporting\MonitoringAgent'. The rule filters out access attempts made by legitimate Azure AD Health monitoring agent processes to reduce false positives. This detection requires specific SACL auditing to be configured on the registry key.
Detects activity that could be related to Baby Shark malware, specifically looking for command-line patterns indicative of its execution and discovery techniques. This includes the use of mshta.exe to execute HTA files via PowerShell, querying the registry for Terminal Server Client information, and using PowerShell to upload files.
This detection identifies suspicious access attempts to registry keys and sub-keys associated with Azure AD Health service agents, such as AD FS. Gaining access to this information could enable an adversary to abuse features provided by these cloud services, particularly federation. The rule requires specific System Access Control List (SACL) auditing to be configured on 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ADHealthAgent' with propagation to sub-keys.
Detects the usage of 'reg.exe' to query reconnaissance information from the Windows registry. Adversaries may interact with the Windows registry to gather information about credentials, the system, configuration, and installed software, specifically looking for common persistence mechanisms and service configurations.
Detects handle requests and access operations to specific registry keys to calculate the SysKey
This detection uses Windows security events to detect suspicious access attempts to the registry key of Azure AD Health monitoring agent.
This detection requires an access control entry (ACE) on the system access control list (SACL) of the following securable object HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Online\Reporting\MonitoringAgent.
This detection requires an access control entry (ACE) on the system access control list (SACL) of the following securable object HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Online\Reporting\MonitoringAgent.
This detection uses Windows security events to detect suspicious access attempts to the registry key values and sub-keys of Azure AD Health service agents (e.g AD FS).
Information from AD Health service agents can be used to potentially abuse some of the features provided by those services in the cloud (e.g. Federation).
This detection requires an access control entry (ACE) on the system access control list (SACL) of the following securable object: HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ADHealthAgent.
Make sure you set the SACL to propagate to its sub-keys.
