This rule detects a multi-stage command and control (C2) domain rotation pattern by identifying DNS queries for domains that match a specific regular expression. The pattern looks for domains consisting of 6 to 12 lowercase alphanumeric characters followed by one of several top-level domains (xyz, top, icu, club, online). A threshold of 5 such queries from the same source within 60 seconds is used to trigger the alert, indicating potential malicious activity like fast flux or domain generation algorithms (DGAs) used by malware for C2 communication.

This rule detects the download of a multi-stage Command and Control (C2) stage two payload. It specifically looks for HTTP traffic where the referer header contains 'pastebin', 'github', 'discord', or 'telegram' (case-insensitive) and the file data starts with 'MZ', indicating a Windows executable. This combination suggests a potential malicious download from common code/file sharing platforms often used by attackers for C2 infrastructure.

This rule detects potential command and control (C2) channel activity by identifying HTTP requests where the URI contains specific keywords commonly associated with C2 infrastructure switching or staging. The keywords include 'stage2', 's2', 'next', 'pivot', and 'relay'. This indicates an attacker might be moving to a new phase of their operation or redirecting C2 communications.

This rule detects various stages of the VOID#GEIST multi-stage Python loader as described in the Securonix blog. It identifies initial batch file execution, Chrome decoy PDF lures, hidden PowerShell relaunching of the batch file, persistence via the Startup folder, curl commands downloading zip payloads, Python embedded runtime downloads, and final Python payload execution. The rule is designed to catch the distinct command-line patterns associated with each stage of this specific malware.

The first rule, VoidGeist_Batch_Orchestrator, detects a multi-stage Python loader associated with the VoidGeist malware. It looks for specific filenames like 'non.bat', 'spol.bat', 'python-3.10.0-embed-amd64.zip', and various '.bin' and '.json' files, along with the domain 'trycloudflare.com' or the string 'status=success'. The rule also requires at least two of the '.bin' or '.json' files to be present and the overall file size to be less than 250KB. The second rule, VoidGeist_EarlyBird_APC, targets a PE or helper implant used by VoidGeist. It identifies Portable Executable (PE) files that import specific functions from 'kernel32.dll' such as 'CreateProcessA', 'VirtualAllocEx', and 'WriteProcessMemory'. Additionally, it looks for the string 'explorer.exe' and at least two of the following
