KQL Query from file: RID Hijacking Technique and Detection
'This query look for Service Principal accounts that are no longer used where a user has added or updated credentials for them before logging in with the Service Principal.
Threat actors may look to re-activate dormant accounts and use them for access in the hope that changes to such dormant accounts may go un-noticed.'

'This query determines rare activity by a high-value account on a system or service. If any account with rare activity is found, the query retrieves related activity from that account on the same day and summarizes the information.'
'Detects anomalous IP address usage by user accounts and then checks to see if a suspicious Teams action is performed.
Query calculates IP usage Delta for each user account and selects accounts where a delta >= 90% is observed between the most and least used IP.
To further reduce results the query performs a prevalence check on the lowest used IP's country, only keeping IP's where the country is unusual for the tenant (dynamic ranges).
Please note, if the initial logic of prevalence to find suspicious logon activity is noisy then consider adding filtering based on Location.
Finally the user accounts activity within Teams logs is checked for suspicious commands (modifying user privileges or admin actions) during the period the suspicious IP was active.'

'Compares the current day to last 14 days of audits to identify new audit activities. Useful for tracking malicious activity related to user/group additions/removals by Azure Apps and automated approvals.'

'Compares current day to last 14 days of audits to identify new audit activities. Useful for tracking malicious activity related to user/group additions/removals by specific users.'
'This query detects domain user accounts creation (event ID 4720) where the username ends with $.
Accounts that end with $ are normally domain computer accounts and when they are created the event ID 4741 is generated instead.

'Identifies when a user account is created and then deleted within 10 minutes. This can be an indication of compromise and an adversary attempting to hide in the noise.'
This query lists Active Directory accounts lockout and unlock events
'Any Alerts that fired related to a given account during the range of +6h and -3d'
'Identifies when a user account was created and then added to the builtin Administrators group in the same day.
This should be monitored closely and all additions reviewed.'

Intent:
- Use MTP capability to look for insider threat potential risk indicators
- Indicators would then serve as the building block for insider threat risk modeling in subsequent tools
Definition of Insider Threat:
"The potential for an individual who has or had authorized access to an organization's assets to use their access, either maliciously or unintentionally, to act in a way that could negatively affect the organization."
This collection of queries describes the different indicators that could be used to model and look for patterns suggesting an increased risk of an individual becoming a potential insider threat.
Note: no single indicator should be used as a lone determinant of insider threat activity, but should be part of an overall program to understand the increased risk to your organization's critical assets. This in turn is used to feed an investigation by a formal insider threat program to look at the context associated with the whole person to understand the implication of a set of indicators.

Query #1: Query for users being created using "net user" command.
"net user" commands are noisy, so needs to be joined with another signal -.
E.g. in this example we look for use of uncommon & undocumented commandline switches (e.g. /ad instead of /add).
