This rule detects the execution of command-line tools like 'dir' or 'findstr' in conjunction with specific file extensions (e.g., .doc, .pdf, .txt) that are commonly associated with sensitive data or credentials. This behavior indicates an attempt at automated collection of data, potentially for exfiltration or further analysis by an adversary. The rule specifically looks for 'dir' commands with '/b' (bare format) and '/s' (subdirectories) flags, or 'findstr' with '/e' (end of line) and '/si' (case-insensitive search for string in files) flags, targeting common document and text file types.
This rule detects PowerShell script block text that contains commands indicative of searching for credentials in files. Specifically, it looks for the combination of 'ls' (list directory contents), '-R' (recursive search), 'select-string' (finds text in strings and files), and '-Pattern' (specifies the text pattern to find). This combination suggests an adversary is recursively searching files for specific patterns, likely credentials.
Detects when the file "passwd" or "shadow" is copied from tmp path
Identifies when a key vault is modified or deleted.
Cisco Collect Data

Collect pertinent data from the configuration files
Identifies when a Keyvault Key is modified or deleted in Azure.
Identifies when secrets are modified or deleted in Azure.
Detects events with patterns found in commands used for reconnaissance on linux systems
Credentials In Files
Sigma
Detecting attempts to extract passwords with grep and laZagne
Detects files written by the different tools that exploit HiveNightmare
Detects execution of "findstr" with specific flags and a remote share path. This specific set of CLI flags would allow "findstr" to download the content of the file located on the remote share as described in the LOLBAS entry.
This rule detects the StealC infostealer malware by identifying specific byte patterns within the executable. These patterns correspond to functions for resolving Windows APIs, loading SQLite3 functions (often used by infostealers to extract data from browsers and other applications), and checking license expiration dates, which are characteristic of this particular malware family. The rule requires all three patterns to be present in a PE file (identified by the 'MZ' header) to trigger, reducing false positives.
Adversaries may search local file systems and remote file shares for files containing insecurely stored credentials.
These can be files created by users to store their own credentials, shared credential stores for a group of individuals,
configuration files containing passwords for a system or service, or source code/binary files containing embedded passwords.

Once established within a system or network, an adversary may use automated techniques for collecting internal data.
