Detects the execution of OS information gathering commands (e.g., uname, lsb_release) by a process that is also identified as having an active network listener. This pattern is indicative of passive backdoors or C2 agents performing reconnaissance of the host system after establishing a listener.
This rule detects potential reconnaissance activity by identifying IP addresses that generate a high volume of HTTP requests with user agents indicating bots, crawlers, or scanners. It counts requests per IP address within one-hour bins and flags those with 50 or more such requests.
Detects indicators of the BUMSRAKETE exploit targeting a FreeBSD kernel page-cache corruption vulnerability (CVE-2026-45257). The rule triggers on the execution of the exploit binary, creation of specific staging files in /tmp, unauthorized access to SUID binaries, configuration of kTLS socket options (TCP_RXTLS_ENABLE/TCP_TXTLS_ENABLE) by unprivileged users, and pre-exploit reconnaissance using sysctl.
This rule detects potential information disclosure attempts by monitoring W3C IIS logs for repeated queries containing keywords like 'version', 'build', or 'debug'. A high frequency (5 or more attempts within an hour) from a single IP address suggests an adversary is trying to enumerate software versions or debug information, which can be used for further reconnaissance or exploit development.
Detects anomalous network traffic from svchost.exe processes exhibiting suspicious behavior indicative of DcRAT, specifically reconnaissance activities that involve gathering system information and security product details for exfiltration to a Command and Control (C2) server.
Detects suspicious processes attempting to query specific registry keys related to system locale settings (HKLM\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Nls\CustomLocale\en-US). This behavior is characteristic of the Grixba infostealer performing geofencing or locale-based checks to determine if the environment is a target of interest.
Detects anomalous use of WMI queries or the wmic.exe utility to gather system or antivirus configuration information from suspicious paths (e.g., Temp, AppData) or when executed by unexpected processes. This pattern often indicates early-stage discovery by malicious software.
Detects queries to internet scan databases used for target reconnaissance
Detects Railway server OS leaking via User-Agent during automated token exchanges. This rule specifically looks for sign-in logs where the User-Agent string indicates a Linux x86_64 system and a Chrome browser version 145 or 146.
Detects use of Wayback Machine to access archived web content for reconnaissance
Detects the execution of common Linux binary inspection and utility tools (ldd, strings, readelf, objdump, nm) when referencing libssh2, potentially indicating an attacker's reconnaissance effort to analyze libraries for vulnerabilities or reverse engineer SSH-related functionality.
Google Threat Intelligence Group (GTIG) has identified a sophisticated campaign attributed to UNC6508, a People's Republic of China (PRC)-nexus threat actor, targeting institutions in the North American academic, medical, and military research community. While remaining undetected for over a year, the threat actor compromised externally facing web applications, deployed bespoke malware, pivoted to sensitive internal systems, and abused enterprise administrative tools for covert data exfiltration. The threat actor had broad collection aspirations, including sensitive defense intelligence related to national security, Indo-Pacific command operations, artificial intelligence, uncrewed vehicle systems, cyber offensive programs, and medical research.
Detects Graph API queries targeting getResourceTenants, identifying lateral movement preparation. This activity can be indicative of an adversary attempting to enumerate tenant relationships within Microsoft Graph to understand the environment and potentially identify targets for further compromise or lateral movement.
Detects fingerprinting of web application CMS versions for vulnerability research
Detects fingerprinting of web application CMS versions for vulnerability research
Detects scraping of partner and vendor relationship pages for supply chain targeting
Detects scraping of job listings to identify employee roles and technology stack
Detects access to device firmware version pages for vulnerability assessment
