This rule detects network connections from internal hosts to identified C2 or phishing infrastructure associated with the threat actor group UNC1151 (also known as Ghostwriter). It monitors both host-based network events (via DeviceNetworkEvents) and centralized network security logs (via CommonSecurityLog) for traffic targeting a curated list of known malicious IP addresses.
This rule monitors for HTTP POST requests containing 'class.module.classLoader', which is a characteristic payload component used to exploit the Spring4Shell vulnerability (CVE-2022-22965) in Spring Framework applications. This vulnerability allows for remote code execution (RCE) by manipulating class loader properties.
Detects HTTP requests containing a UNION SELECT pattern in the URI query string, which is a common indicator of a SQL injection attempt aimed at exfiltrating data or manipulating database queries.
Detects inbound HTTP requests containing common Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) patterns, such as the <script> HTML tag or the 'javascript:' URI scheme, which are indicative of attempts to execute arbitrary client-side code.
This rule detects potential Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attack attempts by inspecting HTTP requests for common malicious patterns, such as embedded script tags, JavaScript URIs, or HTML event handlers like 'onload' and 'onerror'. These payloads are often used by attackers to execute arbitrary code within a user's browser session.
Detects indicators of exploitation related to CVE-2026-20245 on Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN controllers, including malicious tenant CSV uploads, unauthorized account creation (troot), privilege escalation via su, anti-forensic backup of system configuration files, and configuration changes such as PermitRootLogin enabled.
Detects HTTP requests attempting to access sensitive internal IP addresses (RFC-1918) or cloud metadata services (e.g., 169.254.169.254) which are common indicators of Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) exploitation attempts.
Detects attempts to exploit the Log4Shell vulnerability (CVE-2021-44228) by identifying JNDI lookup strings (e.g., ${jndi:ldap://, ${jndi:rmi://, ${jndi:dns://) within HTTP request headers, a technique used to trigger remote code execution in vulnerable Java applications using the Log4j library.
Detects attempts to exploit the Shellshock vulnerability (CVE-2014-6271) by inspecting HTTP request headers for the characteristic function definition syntax '() { :;'. This pattern is commonly used in malicious payloads to trigger command execution via environment variables in CGI scripts.
This rule detects common Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) patterns within the HTTP URI, specifically looking for script tags, javascript: URI handlers, and common event handlers (onerror/onload) that are frequently used in XSS injection attacks.
This rule detects attempts to inject malicious JavaScript code via HTTP URI requests. It uses PCRE pattern matching to identify common XSS indicators such as <script> tags, JavaScript event handlers (onerror, onload), and attempts to access document.cookie, which are indicative of stored or reflected Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attack patterns.
Detects Visual Studio Code or Cursor IDE spawning a node.js process that executes a payload disguised as a .woff2 font file. This behavior is associated with supply chain attacks where malicious npm packages use hidden VS Code workspace tasks (e.g., folderOpen) to execute arbitrary code.
Detects npm or node processes spawning shell interpreters (cmd.exe, powershell.exe) during package installation, which subsequently execute download utilities (curl, wget, certutil, bitsadmin). This behavior is characteristic of malicious npm packages attempting to stage payloads during the 'preinstall' or 'postinstall' hooks.
Detects the execution of the Windows Remote Desktop Client (mstsc.exe) spawned from an email client, browser, or archival application following the opening of a .rdp file attachment. This behavior is consistent with Turla's STOCKSTAY campaign, where malicious RDP configuration files are used to target sensitive entities.
This rule identifies phishing emails containing multiple distinct redirect hops across various cloud hosting platforms (e.g., Azure Websites, Firebase, CloudFront). It flags emails as suspicious if they contain URLs from multiple monitored cloud platforms, indicating a likely bulletproof redirect chain, and correlates these emails with click data. It elevates the severity for emails sent to privileged user accounts such as admins, executives, or finance staff.
Detects inbound emails carrying an attachment whose filename matches the voicemail lure pattern (v-mail_*mp3.eml) but whose declared MIME type is application/html — a content-type mismatch used in Scotiabank-impersonation TOAD callback phishing campaigns to bypass gateway filters.
This rule detects successful Azure AD authentication attempts originating from known hosting provider or VPS IP addresses, combined with anomalous behavior such as headless browser user agents, impossible travel, or high-risk sign-in flags. This pattern is indicative of Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) phishing proxies like Evilginx or Bluekit, which attempt to bypass MFA by proxying the authentication process.
Detects common SQL injection patterns within the HTTP URI query string. The rule monitors established network traffic to web servers and uses regex matching to identify attempts to use SQL keywords like UNION SELECT, OR 1=1 boolean-based attacks, blind SQL injection techniques (sleep/benchmark), and attempts to access information_schema metadata tables.
Detects network requests to Microsoft 365 Copilot Enterprise Search containing suspicious HTML tags or prompt injection keywords in the query parameter, indicating a potential Parameter-to-Prompt (P2P) injection attempt (CVE-2026-42824). Specifically looks for HTML image tags (<img src=), the variable '$TITLE', or the Bing SSRF endpoint 'bing.com/images/searchbyimage' within the URL-decoded 'q' parameter.
This rule detects network connections or URL clicks to a list of known malicious domains often associated with phishing or malware distribution. The rule specifically looks for connections to these domains combined with certain URL paths, or direct URL clicks to these domains.
