Detects Remcos RAT utilizing a COM-based UAC bypass technique. The malware leverages the CMSTPLUA CLSID ({3E5FC7F9-9A51-4367-9063-A120244FBEC7}) and the ICMLuaUtil interface to spawn an elevated process without a UAC prompt. This rule monitors for DllHost.exe acting as a COM surrogate and spawning suspicious child processes (cmd.exe, powershell.exe) or being initiated with the specific CMSTPLUA CLSID, as well as fodhelper/computerdefaults UAC bypass variants.
Detects the creation or modification of WMI event subscriptions via EventID 5861 from the Microsoft-Windows-WMI-Activity log. This activity, involving EventFilters, EventConsumers, or FilterToConsumerBindings, is a well-known technique used by adversaries to establish persistence and achieve execution triggered by system events, often resulting in elevated SYSTEM privileges.
Detects updates or deletions of Azure Active Directory (Entra ID) Conditional Access policies that occur outside of typical business hours (Monday-Friday 08:00-18:00 UTC). Such modifications can be an indicator of an adversary attempting to circumvent security controls or maintain persistent, unauthorized access.
This rule detects the installation of known vulnerable kernel drivers (Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver - BYOVD). These drivers are often exploited by adversaries to gain kernel-level code execution, elevate privileges, or disable security tools (EDR).
Detects workstations establishing multiple connections to non-standard, internal management ports (SSH, Telnet, SNMP). This behavior is often associated with lateral movement or unauthorized network scanning using tools that leverage management protocols.
This rule detects a multi-stage loader chain behavior. Stage 1 identifies PowerShell spawning mshta.exe or wscript.exe, which is commonly used to execute malicious scripts or loaders. Stage 2 detects mshta.exe or wscript.exe subsequently executing schtasks.exe or wmic.exe with command-line arguments indicative of establishing persistence via scheduled tasks or WMI event subscriptions.
This rule detects a sequence of suspicious activities: the creation or modification of an executable file (.exe or .dll) within a directory path containing update-related keywords, followed by the execution of a file in that same location, and culminating in an outbound network connection from that process. This pattern is characteristic of a software supply chain compromise or an adversary deploying a malicious payload via a fake or compromised update mechanism.
Detects the creation of Kubernetes pods where the 'hostPID' or 'hostNetwork' settings are enabled. These configurations allow a pod to share the host's process namespace or network stack, respectively, which are common vectors for container escapes and host-level privilege escalation.
Detects instances where a non-SYSTEM parent process spawns a child process running as SYSTEM, characteristic of 'Potato' family exploits (e.g., JuicyPotato, PrintSpoofer) leveraging SeImpersonatePrivilege to elevate privileges. The rule specifically filters for known legitimate SYSTEM process spawners while highlighting suspicious parent-child process relationships.
Detects instances where a user or service principal is assigned to high-privilege roles (e.g., Global Administrator, Owner) without utilizing the Microsoft Entra Privileged Identity Management (PIM) service. This is indicated by the absence of 'PIM' in the LoggedByService field for a successful 'Add member to role' operation, which could signify an attempt to bypass established access controls and gain unauthorized elevated persistence.
Detects changes to SharePoint tenant-level or site-level sharing policies that expand external access to 'Anyone' (anonymous links) or 'ExternalUserAndGuestSharing'. Such modifications represent a significant security posture regression that may facilitate unauthorized data access or facilitate exfiltration pathways.
Detects the loading of specific vulnerable drivers (Huawei, Topaz Antifraud, Tower of Fantasy, K7 Security) abused by DragonForce ransomware in Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks to terminate security software.
Detects persistence attempts by the Amadey infostealer. The rule monitors for unauthorized creation of .job files directly in the Windows Tasks directory or the execution of schtasks.exe from suspicious locations such as TEMP or APPDATA folders.
This rule detects anomalous or risky sign-in events for user accounts that have recently configured an active out-of-office (OOF) auto-reply. An attacker may leverage a user's known absence to gain access to their email or other corporate resources using compromised credentials, as the user is less likely to notice suspicious account activity while away.
Detects the registration of a Cloud Files sync root provider with the name 'SERIOUSLYMSFT', a hardcoded value in the RedSun exploit (CVE-2026-41091).
Correlates a successful authentication from a new, untrusted IP address utilizing a Linux/Kali User-Agent, a known signature of the Kali365 framework.
Detects indicators associated with the deployment and execution of NetSupport RAT, including the launch of 'client32.exe', loading of the 'pcicl32.dll' module, outbound network connections, and the creation of the 'client.ini' configuration file. It also flags execution chains where 'client32.exe' is spawned by common browser or living-off-the-land processes.
Detects successful sign-ins to Microsoft Graph where Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) was expected but not applied or not enabled, and the authentication method used was not MFA or passwordlessMFA. This could indicate an MFA bypass or misconfiguration, allowing access to sensitive resources without the required second factor.
Detects the TonRAT malware establishing persistence by writing node.exe or JavaScript file paths into Windows registry Run or RunOnce keys. This activity, often involving paths within AppData or ProgramData, is a common indicator of persistence mechanisms used by TonRAT, as observed in the Photo ZIP hospitality campaign.
Detects the execution of 'aws sts get-caller-identity' spawned by IDE-related processes such as VS Code extension hosts or Amazon Q language servers. This pattern may indicate cloud credential reconnaissance performed by a malicious MCP (Model Context Protocol) server or compromised development extension (CVE-2026-12957).
