This rule detects suspicious Okta login attempts where a stolen web session cookie might be reused. It specifically looks for a single user (identified by `userid`) attempting to log in from multiple distinct IP addresses AND from multiple distinct browsers or operating systems within a one-hour window. This behavior is indicative of an adversary attempting to bypass authentication mechanisms by replaying a stolen session cookie from a different device or location.
This rule detects multiple login failures from the same IP address targeting unknown users, as identified by Okta's ThreatInsight. It specifically looks for Okta events categorized as 'USER_UNCATEGORIZED' and 'security.threat.detected' with a summary indicating 'Login failures with high unknown users count'. The rule also incorporates risk scoring based on whether the IP address is deemed suspicious by Okta ThreatInsight and if the login attempts originate from certain high-risk countries.
This rule detects multiple failed login attempts from different users originating from the same IP address within a one-hour window in Okta. It specifically looks for events where the login attempt was blocked due to invalid credentials. The rule also incorporates risk scoring based on Okta ThreatInsight detections and behavioral patterns like new geo-location, device, or IP, as well as logins from unauthorized geographies (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria). The detection is triggered if more than 5 distinct user IDs attempt to log in with invalid credentials from the same IP within the specified timeframe.
Detects when a single user successfully logs into Okta from multiple distinct cities within a 24-hour period. This behavior can indicate a compromised account being used by an attacker from a different geographical location than the legitimate user, or a user traveling rapidly between distant locations. The rule also incorporates risk scoring based on Okta ThreatInsight and logins from suspicious countries.
This rule detects the creation of a new API token within the Okta identity platform. API tokens can be used for programmatic access to Okta and, if compromised, can lead to unauthorized access, persistence, or privilege escalation. The rule specifically looks for 'system.api_token.create' events with a successful 'ALLOW' action.
This rule detects suspected password spraying attacks identified by Okta's ThreatInsight. It specifically looks for Okta security events categorized as 'Password Spray' and can additionally increase the risk score if the originating IP address is marked as suspicious by Okta ThreatInsight or if the login attempt originates from certain unauthorized geographies (Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria).
This rule detects targeted brute-force attacks against an Okta organization. It specifically looks for events from Okta ThreatInsight where known malicious IPs are attempting to access a specific user account, indicated by multiple failed authentication attempts for the same user within a one-hour window. The rule leverages Okta's security.attack.start event type to identify these activities.
This rule detects successful user authentications to Okta that occur outside of typical business hours or on weekends. It specifically flags logins on Saturdays and Sundays, and logins between 8 PM and 7 AM UTC on weekdays. The rule calculates a risk score based on the day and time of the login, with higher scores for weekend logins and late-night/early-morning logins.
Okta provides a platform detection for when a user enrolled in FastPass fails to authenticate via a real-time AiTM phishing proxy.
Okta ThreatInsight detects access requests from known malicious IPs targeting a specific org.
Detects user logins for same user from different cities within 24 hours.
Detects multiple user logins with invalid credentials from a single IP.
Detects successfully authenticated user logins based on Okta's Behavior Detection pattern analysis.
Detects a successful login after multiple failed MFA pushes
Okta Mismatch Between Source and Response for Verify Push Request
Detects multiple failed requests to access applications
Detects when a new API token is created.
Okta ThreatInsight detects multiple login failures from the same IP across one or more Okta orgs.
Okta's ThreatInsight can identify Password Spray attacks.
Detects when an Okta user failed a number challenge during push notification.
Detects when an adversary attempts to reuse a stolen web session cookie in a different device that has a different OS, IP, Browser or User Agent.
