Detects the use of 'bitsadmin.exe' to download files from domains commonly associated with file-sharing services or attacker-controlled infrastructure. This technique is often used by adversaries for ingress tool transfer, defense evasion, and persistence.
Detects the execution of 'certutil.exe' with specific command-line flags ('urlcache' or 'verifyctl') used to download files from known file-sharing or content delivery websites. This technique is often leveraged by adversaries to transfer malicious tools or payloads into a compromised environment, bypassing traditional security controls.
This query visualises the amount of total Malware detections of files located on SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams, summarizing by the locations they are stored
'This query looks for any mass download by a single user with possible file copy activity to a new USB drive. Malicious insiders may perform such activities that may cause harm to the organization.
This query could also reveal unintentional insider that had no intention of malicious activity but their actions may impact an organizations security posture.

'Identifies callouts to Discord CDN addresses for risky file extensions. This detection will trigger when a callout for a risky file is made to a discord server that has only been seen once in your environment.
Unique discord servers are identified using the server ID that is included in the request URL (DiscordServerId in query). Discord CDN has been used in multiple campaigns to download additional payloads.
This analytic rule uses [ASIM](https://aka.ms/AboutASIM) and supports any built-in or custom source that supports the ASIM WebSession schema (ASIM WebSession Schema)'

This query can be used to explore any instances where a terminated individual (i.e. one who has an impending termination date but has not left the company) downloads a large number of files from a non-Domain network address.
This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, Sysrv botnet evolution.
Sysrv is a Go-based botnet that targets both Windows and Linux servers, and steals resources to mine cryptocurrency.
The following query finds instances of remote code execution on a vulnerable Linux server.

This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, "Exchange Server zero-days exploited in the wild".
In early March 2021, Microsoft released patches for four different zero-day vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft Exchange Server. The vulnerabilities were being used in a coordinated attack. For more information on the vulnerabilities, visit the following links:
1. CVE-2021-26855
2. CVE-2021-26857
3. CVE-2021-26858
4. CVE-2021-27065
The following query detects downloads of powercat, an exploitation tool for PowerShell. Although associated with these zero-day attacks, powercat is a multi-purpose tool that is also used by other groups of attackers.
More queries related to this threat can be found under the See also section of this page.

Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is a way to reliably download files from webservers or SMB servers.
This service is commonly used for legitimate purposes, but can also be used as part of a malware downloader.
Additionally, bitsadmin can be used to upload files and therefore can be used for data exfiltration. This
query will identify use of bitsadmin.exe for either purpose and will identify directionality file transfer

This query was originally published in the threat analytics report, Msiexec abuse.
Msiexec.exe is a Windows component that installs files with the .msi extension. These kinds of files are Windows installer packages, and are used by a wide array of legitimate software. However, malicious actors can re-purpose msiexec.exe for living-off-the-land attacks, where they use legitimate system binaries on the compromised device to perform attacks.
The following query detects activity associated with misuse of msiexec.exe, particularly alongside mimikatz, a common credential dumper and privilege escalation tool.

Intent:
- Use MTP capability to look for insider threat potential risk indicators
- Indicators would then serve as the building block for insider threat risk modeling in subsequent tools
Definition of Insider Threat:
"The potential for an individual who has or had authorized access to an organization's assets to use their access, either maliciously or unintentionally, to act in a way that could negatively affect the organization."
This collection of queries describes the different indicators that could be used to model and look for patterns suggesting an increased risk of an individual becoming a potential insider threat.
Note: no single indicator should be used as a lone determinant of insider threat activity, but should be part of an overall program to understand the increased risk to your organization's critical assets. This in turn is used to feed an investigation by a formal insider threat program to look at the context associated with the whole person to understand the implication of a set of indicators.

'This query looks for messages related to file downloads of suspicious file types on an Exchange Server. This could indicate attempted deployment of webshells.
This query uses the Exchange HttpProxy AOBGeneratorLog, you will need to onboard this log as a custom log under the table http_proxy_oab_CL before using this query.
This log is commonly found at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging\OABGeneratorLog on the Exchange server. Details on collecting custom logs into Sentinel
