The detection targets these behaviours:
- Attempts to take ownership of or replace explorer.exe and gpedit.msc.
- Changes to Microsoft Edge's Image File Execution Options (IFEO) debugger.
- Changes to HTTP, HTTPS, HTML, and Microsoft Edge protocol handlers.
- Disabling Explorer's Run command and changing keyboard scancode mappings.
- Creation of temporary VBScript files used for relaunching, elevation prompts, or deceptive messages

Detects files written under Magento pub/media/custom_options/quote by a web server or PHP process, and flags when a subsequent process command line references the uploaded file, indicating potential web shell activity.
Detects Salat Stealer dropping and executing copies of Lightshot.exe in trusted directories such as Windows NT, Edge, and Chrome application paths, as well as process spawn chains involving masqueraded Lightshot executables.
Detects the execution of the AI prompt hook script 'project_context_hook.py' or the creation/modification of the associated investigation state files (scope.md, surface.md, notes.md) within the same folder.
Detects backup service processes writing server-side scripts into web-accessible directories, indicating potential web shell deployment after application compromise.
Detects the creation or modification of web script files (.aspx, .jsp) within common web application directories by unusual processes (such as command shells or download utilities) or by non-standard user accounts, indicating potential web shell deployment.
Detects modification or creation of .htaccess files within WordPress directory structures followed within 24 hours by the creation or modification of .cache files in the same directory. This behavioral pattern is often indicative of web shell deployment or persistence installation via compromised web applications.
Correlates the modification of the Explorer Policies Run registry key (specifically the 'Loader' value) with the creation or modification of a .url shortcut file in the user Startup folder on the same device within a 1-hour window, using the same initiating process.
Detects behavioral indicators of shell-driven cryptocurrency miner staging where a hidden .trace file or binary is created, executed, or referenced via command-line arguments within go2rtc or shared memory directories (/config/, /opt/go2rtc/, /etc/go2rtc/, /.config/go2rtc/, /dev/shm/), alongside indicators of mining pools or software such as XMRig.
Detects script files (PHP, JSP, etc.) created or renamed within web root directories by the ProFTPD process, indicating potential exploitation of the mod_copy module (CVE-2015-3306) to upload web shells.
Detects Gryxa staging behavior where files are written across 2 or more distinct toolkit directories (such as WinRTCS, WER .wucache, and Diagnosis .etlcache) within a 1-hour window on a single device.
Detects coordinated malicious activity on VMware ESXi hosts indicative of ransomware attacks. The rule correlates multiple suspicious events within a 10-minute window, including the appearance of known ESXi ransom notes/banners, mass datastore file renames or encryption extensions, virtual machine stop events, and snapshot deletions designed to prevent recovery.

Detects endpoint and network activity matching known Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) associated with BPFDoor, AVERAT, and Rekoobe backdoors based on Rapid7 research. The query checks for specific file hashes, IP addresses, and domain names across process, file, image load, network, and DNS events.
This rule detects potential persistence attempts by monitoring for the creation of suspicious registry values (common autostart locations) or new files in the Windows Startup directory. It flags registry value data or file names that match known suspicious patterns (e.g., PowerShell, cmd, temp/appdata paths, URLs) when executed by processes other than trusted installers.
Detects payload staging activity associated with threat actor UAC-0099, correlating the creation or modification of executable/DLL files in disguised LocalAppData directories with decoy images or library configuration files within a one-hour window.
Detects payload staging activity associated with threat actor UAC-0099, correlating the creation or modification of executable/DLL files in disguised LocalAppData directories with decoy images or library configuration files within a one-hour window.
Detects payload staging activity associated with threat actor UAC-0099, correlating the creation or modification of executable/DLL files in disguised LocalAppData directories with decoy images or library configuration files within a one-hour window.
Detects indicators of compromise associated with malicious Firefox wallet-clone extensions (Rabby/OKX clones) by checking for known file hashes, extension file names in Firefox profile directories, and network connections to known C2 domains and workers.dev subdomains.
