This rule hunts for various artifacts and behaviors associated with the APT28 campaign "Phantom Net Voxel", which leverages COM hijacking, steganography, and cloud services for C2. This version is specifically tailored for Azure Sentinel using only DeviceProcessEvents, DeviceFileEvents, and DeviceNetworkEvents. It detects known malicious file hashes, regsvr32 execution of a specific DLL, Office applications dropping malicious DLLs or steganographic PNGs, C2 communications to known cloud storage domains, creation of SlimAgent log files, and explorer.exe accessing steganographic PNG files indicating successful COM hijacking.
Detects AdaptixC2 beacon (PE) and shellcode loader components based on unique code patterns and API hashes.
This rule detects potential malware infections and command and control activity by correlating email, endpoint file, and network events with indicators of compromise (IOCs) sourced from an external OSINT feed. It specifically looks for SHA256 hashes in email attachments, domains and URLs in email links, MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 hashes of created files on endpoints, and IP addresses and domains in network connections (both direct and HTTP inspected connections). The rule aims to identify initial access, execution, and command and control phases of an attack, potentially involving Cloudflare Tunnels as suggested by the rule's title and the OSINT source.
Detects the execution of suspicious file types from a user's 'Music' folder. This is an uncommon behavior used by the CountLoader malware for staging payloads.
This rule detects network traffic blocked by Microsoft Defender Exploit Guard Network Protection or SmartScreen. It categorizes these detections into several types: Indicator of Compromise (IoC) URLs, Web Content Filtering, Malicious/Command & Control, and Cloud App Security Broker (CASB) policy violations. The rule summarizes these events per device, providing counts for each detection category and listing the blocked URLs with timestamps.
This rule detects the Warlock ransomware by identifying specific byte patterns associated with its core functionalities. These patterns include code responsible for encrypting files, killing processes, stopping services, and discovering drives, which are common behaviors of ransomware.
This rule detects the Linux_Backdoor_PondRAT malware by identifying specific byte patterns associated with its 'connect_proxy', 'send_payload', and 'execute_shell_command' functions. The rule targets ELF executables.
Detects processes potentially related to XillenStealer making outbound network connections or DNS queries for telegram.org. This is indicative of command and control or data exfiltration activity.
Detects network traffic consistent with XWorm malware using the Telegram API for Command and Control (C2) or data exfiltration. This rule specifically looks for HTTP requests to 'api.telegram.org' with URL patterns indicative of sending messages or files via the Telegram Bot API (e.g., /bot<token>/sendMessage, /bot<token>/sendDocument, /bot<token>/sendPhoto).
Detects Covenant Grunt Stager modules used by APT28 in the Phantom Net Voxel campaign based on known file hashes. This rule specifically looks for the MD5 hashes of these stager modules in file event logs.
The analytic detects the presence of the Supernova webshell, used in the SUNBURST attack, by identifying specific patterns in web URLs. The detection leverages Splunk to search for URLs containing "*logoimagehandler.ashx*codes*", "*logoimagehandler.ashx*clazz*", "*logoimagehandler.ashx*method*", and "*logoimagehandler.ashx*args*". This activity is significant as it indicates potential unauthorized access and arbitrary code execution on a compromised system. If confirmed malicious, this could lead to data theft, ransomware deployment, or other severe outcomes. Immediate steps include reviewing the web URLs, inspecting on-disk artifacts, and analyzing concurrent processes and network connections.
Detects the creation of a mutex with a pattern matching new SmokeLoader versions (2025 alpha and 2025). The malware's main module is injected into explorer.exe, which then creates this distinct mutex to prevent multiple instances from running.
Detects the creation of a malicious executable named 'My Pictures.exe' on a removable drive, a technique used by VenomRAT for lateral movement.
Detects fake image files (BMP, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF) used by the BeardShell backdoor for command and control communications. These files contain an encrypted payload and a size field that matches the file's total size, a technique used by APT28 in the Phantom Net Voxel campaign.
Detects network connections to known malicious AnyDesk-related URLs and IP addresses, as well as the presence of specific malicious file hashes and filenames associated with AnyDesk-themed phishing or malware. This rule aims to identify potential compromise attempts or active infections involving remote access tools often abused by adversaries.
Detects network connections to known XWorm Command and Control (C2) infrastructure (IPs and domains) and the creation of processes with filenames associated with XWorm malware. This rule combines network and process-based indicators to identify potential XWorm infections.
Yara rule that detects Warlock ransomware.
Detects the execution of the PureCoder Rust Loader based on the specific command-line argument '/i:--type=renderer' required for its execution.
Detects a sequence of file creations (.svg, .zip, .bat) on a single host within a short time window, which is indicative of a malicious SVG-based download campaign delivering payloads like XWorm and Remcos.
Detects the ITarian RMM service (RmmService.exe) spawning a child process from various suspicious directories commonly used for malware staging. This behavior is associated with adversaries using ITarian for post-exploitation activities, such as dropping additional malware.
Detects the presence of specific compromised versions of popular NPM packages. These versions were tampered with to include a malicious crypto wallet drainer as part of a supply chain attack.
