Detects instances where a user account registers a new MFA security method shortly after an initial successful sign-in from an unfamiliar device or network (Autonomous System Number). This behavioral pattern is characteristic of attackers, such as ShinyHunters vishing operators, who gain initial access via compromised credentials and subsequently enroll their own MFA devices to establish persistent access.
Detects unauthorized attempts to delete or purge critical Salesforce audit logs, including the Setup Audit Trail, Login History, and Event Monitoring log files. This behavior is indicative of anti-forensic activity, often utilized by threat actors such as ShinyHunters to destroy audit evidence following unauthorized access, data export, or credential manipulation.
Detects anomalous large-scale data export operations in Google BigQuery (via jobs.insert or jobs.query) performed by identities (service accounts, API keys) not previously observed in the environment. This activity is indicative of credential abuse where stolen third-party analytics or monitoring service tokens are utilized for illicit data exfiltration, a behavior consistent with tactics employed by threat actors such as ShinyHunters.
Detects authentication to Snowflake instances where Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is absent and the account authenticates from multiple distinct source IP addresses within a 14-day window. This behavior is indicative of potential account takeover using compromised non-MFA credentials, a pattern consistent with activities attributed to threat actors like ShinyHunters/UNC5537.
Detects unauthorized abuse of the OAuth 2.0 device authorization grant flow in Salesforce environments, commonly used by threat actors like ShinyHunters (UNC6240) to gain programmatic access. Attackers register malicious connected apps to impersonate legitimate tools, then use social engineering (vishing) to trick victims into approving device codes. This rule flags token issuance from non-allowlisted connected apps using the device_code grant type.
Detects the use of open-source secret-scanning tools (e.g., TruffleHog) by identifying their specific User-Agent strings in AWS CloudTrail logs during GetCallerIdentity calls, followed by suspicious enumeration activity (ListBuckets, ListSecrets, ListAccessKeys) from the same source IP. This behavior is indicative of threat actors validating stolen credentials for unauthorized access to cloud resources.
Detects UNC6240 PSEMHUB.war web shell/tunnel/trojanized installer artifacts by distinctive content markers (x.jsp, u.jsp, tunnel.jsp/jspx, Ple64.exe)
Detects network activity (TCP, DNS, TLS, HTTP) associated with the UNC6240 threat actor's infrastructure, specifically targeting communications with known malicious IP addresses and domains used in a campaign leveraging PeopleSoft-related lures.
Detects a suspicious sequence of reconnaissance activities associated with ShinyHunters campaigns targeting PeopleSoft environments. The pattern involves reading '/etc/hosts' using standard utilities ('cat', 'grep', 'awk') followed by rapid network discovery or probing attempts using 'curl', 'wget', 'nmap', or 'nc' from the same host within a 10-minute window.
Detects the creation of ransom or extortion note files within known web server directories immediately following suspicious HTTP activity targeting an internet-facing host. This pattern aligns with known ShinyHunters extortion tactics where applications are exploited to deploy extortion notes.
Detects UNC6240 PSEMHUB.war web shell/tunnel/trojanized installer artifacts by distinctive content markers (x.jsp, u.jsp, tunnel.jsp/jspx, Ple64.exe)
Detects the addition of new members to a GitHub organization or team outside of standard business hours. This behavior is correlated with potential subsequent grants of repository administrative access or read access to secrets, characteristic of attacker patterns attempting to gain unauthorized access to cloud environments and OAuth tokens via CI/CD pipelines or VCS platforms.
Detects an abnormally high volume of POST requests from a single source to the Salesforce Aura API endpoint (/s/sfsites/aura) within a short window, which is indicative of automated guest profile enumeration and AuraInspector-style probing activity associated with the ShinyHunters Salesforce campaigns.
Detects OAuth application consent grant events where an application name matches common 'Data Loader' naming conventions and requests high-privilege scopes (read/write/full/api). This pattern is consistent with consent phishing campaigns used by threat actors to gain persistent access to SaaS environments like M365 or Salesforce.
Detects a pattern associated with ShinyHunters/UNC6040, where a user authorizes a new or rarely-used OAuth connected application shortly after performing a help-desk initiated password reset or MFA re-enrollment, originating from a different geographic location.
Detects high-volume data transfers (exceeding 100MB) from internal sources to known external cloud storage and file-sharing platforms. This behavior is consistent with data staging and exfiltration patterns, often used by threat actors to move collected data to attacker-controlled storage infrastructure.
