Detects network traffic matching the default HTTP check-in pattern of Mythic C2 agents. This rule monitors for POST requests using a specific hardcoded User-Agent string and Content-Type header commonly used in default Mythic agent configurations, indicating a potential active command-and-control session.
Detects outbound network connections to common Mythic C2 ports initiated by processes identified as compiler-related binaries (Go, Zig, Rust) or binaries running from suspicious, user-writable directories (Temp, AppData, etc.). This behavior is consistent with the execution of staging or initial implants associated with the Mythic post-exploitation framework.

Mythic C2 over SMB Detection
Cortex XDR
This rule detects potential Mythic C2 activity communicating over SMB. It identifies network traffic using the SMB protocol with a total upload size greater than 360 bytes, originating from and destined for private IP address ranges. The rule then groups these connections by agent hostname, local IP, remote IP, and process image name, flagging instances where three or more such connections occur within a 7-day timeframe, indicating potential beaconing behavior.
This rule detects Command and Control (C2) communication associated with the Mythic C2 framework utilizing Server Message Block (SMB) for peer-to-peer (P2P) beaconing. It specifically looks for SMB_COM_WRITE_ANDX commands with a data size greater than 360 bytes, containing a specific null byte pattern at offset 86, and a PCRE match for a GUID-like string, which are indicators of Mythic C2 SMB P2P beacon traffic.
Detects network traffic consistent with RomCom's Mythic C2 framework. This includes connections to known C2 domains or requests for specific URI paths that return a 403 Forbidden status with an Nginx server header, a known fingerprint of this infrastructure.
This rule detects activities associated with the RomCom threat group, including exploitation of CVE-2025-8088 (WinRAR path traversal), COM hijacking for persistence, anti-analysis techniques (RecentDocs check), C2 communication, and suspicious WMIC execution, potentially linked to a Mythic agent.
Detects a process launching from a common user-writable directory that subsequently makes an external network connection. This behavior is consistent with malware, such as the Mythic agent used by RomCom, that performs an execution guardrail check (e.g., verifying the host's domain name) before initiating command and control communications.
Detects potential suspicious child processes of "jamf". This could indicate the abuse of Jamf as a C2 server, as observed with the Typhon MythicAgent. Specifically, the rule looks for '/bash' or '/sh' being spawned as child processes of the 'jamf' executable.
