Detects the usage of "reg.exe" in order to query reconnaissance information from the registry. Adversaries may interact with the Windows registry to gather information about credentials, the system, configuration, and installed software.
The following analytic detects the enumeration of Windows services using the net start command, which is a built-in utility that lists all running services on a system. Adversaries, system administrators, or automated tools may use this command to gain situational awareness of what services are active, identify potential security software, or discover opportunities for privilege escalation and lateral movement. The execution of net start is often associated with reconnaissance activity during the early stages of an intrusion, as attackers attempt to map out the system’s defense mechanisms and operational services. By monitoring process execution for instances of cmd.exe /c net start or similar command-line usage, defenders can detect potentially suspicious activity. Correlating this behavior with other reconnaissance commands, such as tasklist or sc query, strengthens detection fidelity. While net start is not inherently malicious, unusual or repeated use in non-administrative contexts should be flagged for further investigation.
Detects the execution of multiple distinct host reconnaissance commands (e.g., systeminfo, whoami, ipconfig, AV/EDR checks, and domain enumeration) within a short window (10 minutes) originating from the same parent process. This pattern is characteristic of automated reconnaissance collection, often performed during the initial phases of an attack or as part of a C2 workflow. The rule includes exclusions for common administrative, monitoring, and RMM tools to reduce false positives.

Detects rapid execution of multiple native Windows discovery commands (whoami, ipconfig, hostname, tasklist) within a short window, which is often indicative of an adversary performing environment reconnaissance post-compromise.
This rule detects the execution of PowerShell commands that simultaneously perform reconnaissance for security analysis tools and virtual machine environment indicators. The presence of encoded, hidden, or non-interactive PowerShell flags in conjunction with these discovery actions is indicative of an adversary attempting to verify their execution environment to evade detection and analysis by security researchers or automated sandbox systems.
Detects rapid, non-interactive ransomware-like behavior characterized by system reconnaissance followed by automated bulk file deletion of model/data files (e.g., .ckpt, .pt). The rule identifies campaigns where discovery, lateral movement or automated execution, and destructive impact occur within a 3-hour window without any interactive user login evidence.

Detects Python processes executing common system and network enumeration tools (e.g., net.exe, tasklist.exe, dsquery, Get-ADUser). This activity is indicative of the SynkLoader system profiler module, used to size the victim environment for ransom-value estimation and lateral movement preparation.
