This rule detects a sequence of events indicative of a potential macOS ClickFix attack. It looks for a base64 encoded command executed by 'bash' or 'zsh', immediately followed (within 10 seconds) by a 'curl' command that initiates a network connection to a URL. The rule specifically excludes a whitelisted curl command to reduce false positives. The correlation of base64 execution, a subsequent curl command, and a successful network connection to the domain extracted from the curl command suggests an attempt to download and execute malicious content, possibly after decoding it.

Detects a sequence of events where a user visits a Cloudflare Pages URL (*.pages.dev) and shortly after, a suspicious command (mshta, powershell, or curl) is executed. This pattern is consistent with the UNC5142 threat actor's TTP of using social engineering lures hosted on Cloudflare Pages to trick users into running malicious commands.

Detects the execution of a shell command characteristic of APT36's use of malicious .desktop files on Linux. The command typically involves using 'curl' to download a hex-encoded payload and 'chmod' to make it executable, often within the a tmp directory.

The following analytic detects multiple executions of Living off the Land (LOLbin) binaries on macOS within a short period. It leverages osquery to monitor process events and identifies commands such as "find", "crontab", "screencapture", "openssl", "curl", "wget", "killall", and "funzip". This activity is significant as LOLbins are often used by attackers to perform malicious actions while evading detection. If confirmed malicious, this behavior could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code, escalate privileges, or persist within the environment, posing a significant security risk.

The analytic detects instances where Java or Tomcat processes spawn a Linux shell. This activity may indicate exploitation attempts, such as those related to CVE-2021-44228 (Log4Shell). This detection leverages Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) telemetry, focusing on process names and parent-child process relationships. This activity is significant as it can signify a compromised Java application, potentially leading to unauthorized shell access. If confirmed malicious, attackers could execute arbitrary commands, escalate privileges, or maintain persistent access, posing a severe threat to the environment.

Detects the creation of a PHP web shell file named 'hafuab.php' in '/usr/local/webui/' by an 'echo' command, which includes PHP code to display 'test - Open source project (github.com/test/test)' and 'phpinfo()'. This activity is indicative of an attacker attempting to establish persistent access and gain information about the web server environment.

This analytic identifies the execution of suspicious processes, such as `cmd.exe`, `powershell.exe`, or `bash.exe`, when they are spawned by web server processes like `w3wp.exe` or `nginx.exe`. This behavior is a strong indicator of WebShell activity, where an adversary exploits a web application vulnerability to gain persistent access and command execution capabilities on the web server. Successful exploitation could lead to arbitrary command execution, privilege escalation, and data exfiltration.

Detects potential abuse of the Linux Magic SysRq (System Request) key by adversaries with root or sufficient privileges to manipulate or destabilize a system. Writing to /proc/sysrq-trigger can crash the system, kill processes, or bypass standard logging. Monitoring SysRq abuse helps detect stealthy post-exploitation activity.

Detects various techniques, procedures, and indicators associated with the RustyPages macOS malware dropper, including persistence, defense evasion, payload download, and known IOCs. This rule specifically looks for the use of `curl` to download a hidden file, `launchctl` to establish persistence, `chmod` to make the payload executable, `xattr` to clear extended attributes, `pgrep` to discover security tools, shell commands to silence notifications, C2 domain/IP connections, and known malware file hashes.

Detects the execution of a malicious Linux payload, possibly within a .desktop file, a technique used by APT36. The rule identifies a bash process executing an inline command that downloads and runs a payload, often using a combination of curl, xxd, base64, and eval.

Detects potential GTFOBins abuse on Linux systems where a root shell is spawned by a suspicious parent process (e.g., find, perl, vim, tar, etc.).
This rule relies on DeviceProcessEvents in Microsoft Defender XDR and is intended for environments where Auditd, Sysmon for Linux, or similar native logging is not available.

Note: This detection does not cover all GTFOBins. It focuses specifically on cases where:
- A root-owned shell is spawned
- The parent process is known to be capable of shell escape or privilege abuse
- The child command appears interactive or escape-like

It does not detect:
- Non-shell-based GTFOBin techniques (e.g., file exfiltration via scp, curl, etc.)
- GTFOBin usage that doesn't result in a new shell (e.g., privilege escalation via
misconfigured capabilities)
- Abuse of GTFOBins run under non-root accounts

The query includes logic to detect both high-signal exploitation patterns and suspicious shell spawns, while excluding common false positives (e.g., package post-install scripts and benign environment checks).
