Detects the creation of the Active Directory group "ESX Admins". Threat actors create this group to exploit CVE-2024-37085, which grants any member of this group administrative privileges on domain-joined VMware ESXi hypervisors.
Detects modification of an AWS IAM role's trust policy to include a principal from an unknown or untrusted AWS account. This is a common persistence technique used by attackers to maintain access to a compromised environment by allowing their external account to assume the role.
Detects suspicious OAuth app consents, role assignments, and group changes involving Workday and Salesforce, indicating potential account compromise or privilege escalation.
Purpose: Hunts for risky OAuth applications in Microsoft 365 with overly permissive Microsoft Graph permissions.
Key Actions:
Finds enabled OAuth apps and retrieves their latest state (arg_max).
Expands permissions and flags sensitive ones (e.g., Mail.Send, Files.ReadWrite.All, User.ReadWrite.All, Sites.ReadWrite.All).
Notes publisher verification, origin, and last modification date.
Marks risky apps via HasRiskyPermissions flag.
Use Cases: Detects malicious consent grant phishing, overprivileged third-party apps, and integrations that could enable data theft or long-term access.

Detects the addition of a member to a sensitive Active Directory group related to VMware administration (e.g., 'vSphere Admins', 'ESX Admins') using net.exe executed via WinRM (wsmprovhost.exe). This behavior is a key TTP used by threat groups like UNC3944 to escalate privileges and gain control over the vSphere environment after an initial compromise.
This rule detects when a user is added to an administrative or management role in Azure Active Directory outside of defined business hours. It specifically looks for 'Add member to role completed' or 'Add app role assignment grant to user' operations where the target role contains 'admin' or 'Manage', and the event occurs outside of the configured business hours (7 AM to 6 PM local time, Monday to Friday).
This detection identifies when Microsoft Copilot Studio agents are created in your organization's tenant. This activity is significant as the default behavior in Copilot agent creation is to configure a new service principal with cloud app administrator role.
Copilot agents can be found in the Microsoft Admin Portal https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home#/copilot/agents

This detection identifies when an Azure Service Principal elevates privileges by adding itself to a new app role assignment. This activity is indicative of privilege escalation within an Azure Active Directory environment, where a service principal grants itself additional permissions.

'This hunting query identifies updates to the RequiredResourceAccess property of an OAuth application.
This property specifies resources that an application requires access to and the set of OAuth permission scopes and application roles that it needs under each of those resources.
This pre-configuration of required resource access drives the consent experience. The resourceAccess property of the requiredResourceAccess type is a collection of ResourceAccess.
A threat actor might update this property before granting permissions to an application.

'Identifies accounts that are added to a privileged group and then quickly removed, which could be a sign of compromise.'
Prior to deploying Macaw ransomware in an organization, adversaries will change the password for hundreds or thousands of accounts in order to lock users out of the network and impeded recovery efforts.
