Detects high-risk activities related to SAML token-signing certificates, including certificate export from Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) or Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) and unauthorized configuration changes to enterprise application certificate management. These activities are potential precursors to Golden SAML attacks, where an adversary attempts to forge authentication tokens.
This rule monitors Entra ID (Azure AD) SAML sign-in events and correlates them with on-premises Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) audit logs. It specifically looks for indicators of forged SAML tokens, including sign-in events without a corresponding upstream authentication, SAML tokens with excessively long lifetimes, or authentication activity following a recent update to the AD FS token-signing certificate, which is a hallmark of the Golden SAML technique.
Detects changes to federation settings on an Entra ID domain, including modifications to IssuerUri, ActiveLogOnUri, MetadataExchangeUri, or SigningCertificate, as well as transitions between Managed and Federated authentication types. Such changes can facilitate 'Golden SAML' attacks by allowing an adversary to forge authentication tokens for the tenant.

Detects changes to Entra ID (Azure AD) federation settings, specifically targeting updates to trust and authentication parameters such as IssuerUri, ActiveLogOnUri, and TokenSigningCertificate. These modifications are critical indicators of potential Golden SAML attacks, where adversaries forge SAML tokens to bypass MFA and impersonate users.
Detects unauthorized modifications to federation trust configurations, such as IssuerUri, federationMetadataUrl, or signing certificate thumbprints, on a federated domain. Adversaries may manipulate these settings to establish credential-independent persistence or to forge SAML tokens (Golden SAML) by repointing the federation metadata to attacker-controlled infrastructure.
Detects modifications to the Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) token-signing certificate on a federated domain. This activity is a critical precursor to Golden SAML attacks, where an attacker replaces the legitimate signing certificate with one they control to forge SAML assertions and bypass authentication mechanisms. The rule excludes modifications initiated by applications identified as federation services.

Detects potential Golden SAML activity by correlating Azure AD SAML sign-in events for privileged accounts with a lack of corresponding server-side ADFS authentication logs, unusual SAML issuer URIs, lack of on-premises authentication logs, or evidence of direct access to ADFS token-signing certificate private key material.
Detects a sequence of suspicious identity activities indicative of a post-account-takeover pivot. The rule identifies a user profile engaging in corporate VPN SAML SSO probing, triggering a MFA enrollment interrupt in Azure, and subsequently accessing multiple Microsoft 365 applications (Azure Portal, OfficeHome, SharePoint) within a 30-minute window.
Detects SAML token authentication events where the token-signing certificate does not match the established federation baseline (indicating potential token forging or unauthorized IdP activity) or where critical conditional access claims (MFA and device compliance) are missing from the SAML assertion.
Detects the addition or modification of federated domain trusts or identity provider settings within Entra ID. Such actions can be indicative of attackers establishing persistent access or implementing Golden SAML-style attacks by forging authentication assertions via a compromised or malicious identity trust.

Detects an attempt to exploit CVE-2026-24858 in FortiCloud SSO by sending a crafted SAML authentication request that lacks a signature. This vulnerability allows an attacker to bypass authentication by providing an unsigned SAML response.
