Detects when the same SessionId is used to sign in from more than one location across interactive and non-interactive sign-ins.
This rule detects a pattern indicative of password spraying or brute force attacks against user accounts. It identifies instances where a single user principal name (UPN) and IP address combination has at least 5 failed sign-in attempts and at least 1 successful sign-in attempt within a 30-minute window. This combination of failed and successful logins from the same source for the same user suggests an attacker successfully guessed a password after multiple attempts, or a password spraying attack where one of the sprayed passwords was correct.
This rule detects an abnormal volume of large file downloads or exports from cloud applications, excluding SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams. It identifies instances where a single account downloads or exports more than 3 files with an average size greater than 10 MB within an hour from a specific application and IP address. This behavior could indicate data exfiltration or unauthorized data access.
Identifies potentially malicious inbox rules used to hide emails, forward messages externally, or facilitate business email compromise activity.
Detects attempts to delete volume shadow copies using 'vssadmin' or 'wmic shadowcopy' commands. Adversaries often delete shadow copies to prevent system recovery and hinder forensic analysis, especially during ransomware attacks or data destruction efforts.
Detects suspicious modifications to Registry Run and RunOnce keys that include common scripting or command execution keywords (powershell, cmd, .bat). This activity is often associated with persistence mechanisms where adversaries attempt to execute malicious code upon user login.
Detects an unusually high volume (100 or more within an hour) of API calls (POST, DELETE, PUT methods to URIs containing 'api') originating from a single IP address. This activity could indicate various malicious behaviors such as brute-force attacks, credential stuffing, web application attacks, or a denial-of-service attempt against the API endpoint.
This rule detects modifications to registry keys related to the Local Security Authority (LSA) or Security Account Manager (SAM). Such modifications, indicated by Event ID 4657, can be a sign of privilege escalation attempts, credential dumping, or other malicious activities aimed at compromising system security.
This rule detects multiple executions of 'netsh firewall' commands within a one-hour window on a single computer. This activity can indicate an adversary attempting to modify or disable system firewalls to bypass security controls, enable C2 communications, or facilitate lateral movement.
Detects inbound RPC calls to the Service Control Manager interface with operation numbers corresponding to service creation and modification, which may indicate lateral movement via remote service installation.
