This rule detects suspicious file export activity by monitoring for the creation of files with names containing keywords like 'export', 'dump', or 'extract'. It triggers an alert if five or more such files are created by the same account within a one-hour window, indicating potential data exfiltration or staging.
This rule detects the creation of new transport rules within Exchange Online. Adversaries may create malicious transport rules to forward emails, bypass security controls, or exfiltrate data. Monitoring the creation of new transport rules can help identify suspicious activity.
Look for traffic to the known Sunburst C&C.
Looks for generic webshell creation on Windows Servers.
Detects Hero proxyware artifacts being written or modified within the Windows SysWOW64 directory. Presence of these files may indicate installation of unauthorized proxy services or abuse of enterprise endpoints for traffic relaying.
Detects execution of OneDriveUpdater.exe from C:\ProgramData, which may represent a masqueraded binary attempting to impersonate legitimate Microsoft software. This could indicate an attempt at defense evasion or persistence by an attacker.
Detects PowerShell commands using XOR operations together with execution primitives that may indicate obfuscated in-memory payload decoding. Specifically looks for 'powershell.exe' executing with '-bxor', '81', and either 'IEX' or 'Invoke-Expression' in the command line.
Detects trusted .NET tooling launching shells, scripting engines, or administrative utilities that are not typically associated with legitimate compilation workflows, potentially indicating malicious execution or post-exploitation.
Detects the creation of Windows QoS policies that specifically target EDR, antivirus, or security monitoring processes using the -AppPathNameMatchCondition parameter. This technique can be used to throttle security tool network traffic, reducing telemetry visibility and impairing detection capabilities.
Flags suspicious execution of X-VPN.exe or related installers loading unexpected DLLs, consistent with the CWE‑427 uncontrolled search path exploited in the campaign.
