Detects an RDP connection originating from a domain controller. This activity is highly suspicious as domain controllers should not typically initiate RDP connections to other machines. Such an event could indicate lateral movement by an attacker who has compromised the domain controller. The rule specifically filters out connections made by "Microsoft.Tri.Sensor.exe", which is associated with Microsoft Defender for Identity, to avoid false positives from legitimate security operations.
Detects the creation of files with scripting or executable extensions by the MySQL daemon process. This activity could indicate the abuse of MySQL User Defined Functions (UDFs) to download and execute malware, often as part of a broader compromise or to establish persistence.
Detects network communication initiated to the 'portmap.io' domain. This domain is often associated with port forwarding services that can be abused by malicious actors for command and control (C2) communication or data exfiltration, potentially masking the true destination of the traffic.
Detects when a PowerShell script uses the 'New-NetFirewallRule' cmdlet to create a new firewall rule with an 'Allow' action. This activity can indicate an adversary attempting to bypass host-based firewalls to enable command and control, lateral movement, or data exfiltration.
Detects the addition of a new file or path exclusion to macOS Time Machine via the "tmutil" utility. An adversary could exclude a path from Time Machine backups to prevent certain files from being backed up, hindering recovery efforts.
Detects the addition of a new rule to the Windows Firewall exception list for an application located in a potentially suspicious location. Adversaries may modify system firewalls to bypass controls limiting network usage, enabling C2 communications, lateral movement, and/or data exfiltration.
This rule detects attempts to gain 'PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS' rights to specific, commonly used Windows processes such as 'calc.exe', 'notepad.exe', and 'mspaint.exe'. Granting 'PROCESS_ALL_ACCESS' provides the requesting process with all possible access rights to the target process, which can be abused by malicious software for process injection, privilege escalation, or defense evasion.
This rule detects the presence of various emoji characters within the command line arguments of a newly created process. The use of emojis in command lines is considered unusual and could indicate an attempt at defense evasion, potentially to bypass signature-based detections or obfuscate malicious commands.
Detects the enabling of the Windows Recall feature by manipulating registry keys using `reg.exe`. This rule specifically looks for commands that either delete the `DisableAIDataAnalysis` registry value or set it to `0` within the `Microsoft\Windows\WindowsAI` path, indicating an attempt to activate the Recall feature. This activity is often associated with post-exploitation discovery and collection by adversaries.
Detects the enabling of the Windows Recall feature via registry manipulation. Windows Recall can be enabled by setting the value of "DisableAIDataAnalysis" to "0". Adversaries may enable Windows Recall as part of post-exploitation discovery and collection activities. This rule assumes that Recall is already explicitly disabled on the host, and subsequently enabled by the adversary.
