Detects attempts to print the contents of common history files (like .bash_history or .zsh_history) using command-line utilities such as `cat`, `head`, `tail`, or `more`. This activity is often performed by adversaries for reconnaissance purposes to gather information about previously executed commands, which may contain sensitive data or reveal system configurations.
This rule detects suspicious sub-processes spawned by common web server processes on Linux systems. It specifically looks for web server processes (Apache, Nginx, Lighttpd, Node, Caddy, Tomcat, WebSphere) executing common system utilities and commands such as 'whoami', 'ifconfig', 'ip', 'uname', 'cat', 'crontab', 'hostname', 'iptables', 'netstat', 'pwd', and 'route'. This behavior is indicative of a web shell being used to execute commands on the compromised server.
Detects suspicious DNS queries that contain a base64 encoded string, indicated by the '==.' pattern. This pattern is often used in DNS exfiltration techniques where data is encoded in base64 and sent via DNS queries to bypass network defenses.
RDP login with localhost source address may be a tunnelled login
Detects the use of the 'spoolss' named pipe over SMB, which can be leveraged to trigger NTLM authentication from a target machine with the print spooler service enabled. This technique is often used in NTLM relay attacks or other forms of printer spooler abuse to gain unauthorized access or escalate privileges.
Detects attempts to decode a base64 encoded Gzip archive within a PowerShell script. This technique is often used by adversaries to load malicious content into memory, leveraging standard encoding for obfuscation and memory-resident execution.
Detects process injection using the signed Windows tool "Mavinject" via the "INJECTRUNNING" flag. This activity is suspicious when not initiated by the expected parent process, 'AppVClient.exe'.
Detects the execution of Advanced IP Scanner, a tool often used by ransomware groups for network discovery. The rule identifies the tool by its image name, original file name, description, or specific command-line arguments indicating portable execution.
Detects specific command-line patterns and process image paths associated with the REvil ransomware group's attack on Kaseya VSA. The rule looks for execution of 'cert.exe' and 'MsMpEng.exe' from unusual paths, as well as specific file deletion commands and references to 'Kaseya VSA Agent Hot-fix' and 'agent.exe'/'agent.crt' in 'kworking' or 'kworking1' directories, which were observed during the Kaseya supply chain incident.
This rule identifies when an Azure Application Gateway is either modified or deleted. This activity is captured through Azure Activity Logs by monitoring specific operation names related to Application Gateway write (modification) and delete operations. Detection of these events can indicate administrative changes to the network infrastructure, which could be legitimate or potentially malicious if unauthorized.
