This rule detects the use of the LockAppHost process to execute suspicious commands associated with tampering with security configurations, including Windows Defender settings, service management (sc.exe), and task scheduling. Adversaries may abuse this process to bypass security controls, disable real-time monitoring, or maintain persistence.
Detects the execution of processes named 'ProManager.exe' or 'ProManagerServicedc894.exe', which may be indicative of unauthorized software or potentially malicious activity.
Detects the execution of an executable file located within the Windows Temp directory structure via the command prompt (cmd.exe). This pattern is commonly associated with the execution of downloaded payloads, droppers, or staged malware that are moved to temporary directories to evade initial detection.
Detects the use of 'schtasks.exe' to disable critical Windows Update or ExploitGuard Malware Removal tasks when initiated by 'LockAppHost.exe'. This behavior is highly irregular, as the LockAppHost process is typically associated with the Windows Lock Screen and should not be modifying security-related scheduled tasks.
Detects anomalous registry enumeration or modification activities targeting software uninstallation registry keys (Run/Uninstall). By monitoring for multiple subkey accesses by processes not associated with standard software management tools (like MsiExec or explorer), this rule identifies potential reconnaissance or software discovery patterns indicative of malicious activity.
Detects potential credential harvesting or process memory manipulation against browser processes (Chrome or Edge). The rule monitors for unauthorized debugging activity initiated against browser processes (e.g., using flags like DEBUG_PROCESS or specific API calls) and the access of the App-Bound encryption provider symbol, which is often a target for attackers seeking to decrypt browser-stored secrets.
This rule detects the addition of specific suspicious executables to Windows Registry run keys. Adversaries use these keys to achieve persistence, ensuring that malicious programs execute automatically upon user logon.
Detects instances where the ESET Remote Administrator Agent (ERAAgent.exe) terminates shortly after loading the Data Protection API service (dpapisvc.dll). This pattern may indicate an attempt to interact with or disrupt DPAPI services, potentially to facilitate credential dumping or sensitive data access.
Detects ERAAgent.exe performing suspicious dynamic API resolution for functions commonly used by the SLEEPWALKER malware (VirtualProtect, SetSecurityDescriptorDacl, and CryptGenRandom). By resolving these functions at runtime via GetProcAddress rather than including them in the static import table, the malware attempts to evade detection and analysis.
Detects the loading of compression libraries (such as lzma.dll or 7z.dll) by ERAAgent.exe followed by suspicious process or thread activity (e.g., remote thread creation, memory allocation). This pattern is often associated with the staging and execution of malicious payloads in memory.
