This rule detects potential password spraying attacks against PeopleSoft or PeopleTools applications. It monitors for a pattern where a single source IP address generates multiple failed authentication attempts against a variety of distinct user accounts, followed by at least one successful login from the same source IP. This behavior is indicative of an adversary attempting to gain unauthorized access by iterating through a list of usernames with common or guessed passwords.
Detects user authentication events where the MFA redirect URL points to an unrecognized or potentially malicious domain. This behavior is indicative of an Adversary-in-the-Middle (AiTM) attack, such as the TrustSink credential capture technique, where the user is diverted from the legitimate identity provider to an attacker-controlled OIDC endpoint to capture credentials or session tokens.
Detects the modification of critical Entra ID authentication method policies, such as the registration or configuration of external MFA/OIDC providers, by a user account shortly after an anomalous or high-risk login event. This behavior is indicative of an attacker attempting to establish persistent backdoor access via rogue MFA provider registration, consistent with techniques used to subvert cloud authentication policies.
Detects the execution of TruffleHog, an automated secret-scanning CLI tool, often utilized by threat actors to harvest sensitive credentials from local filesystems, repositories, environment variables, or CI/CD configuration files following unauthorized access.
Detects the execution of the GigaWiper malware or the use of common system commands associated with destructive data activities, such as recursive file removal, disk formatting, or secure data overwriting, often used by threat actors for extortion.
Detects successful OAuth token grant events for specific third-party SaaS integrations (Salesloft, Drift, Gainsight) where requested scopes include broad permissions such as 'api', 'refresh_token', or 'full'. This pattern is indicative of potential consent phishing or the abuse of a compromised OAuth application to maintain persistent, high-privileged access to SaaS resources.
Detects anomalous AWS IAM and Secrets Manager API activity indicative of credential abuse following suspected exposure. The rule identifies suspicious patterns such as unauthorized enumeration of access keys, secret retrieval, and creation of new keys by non-service principals, reflecting activity associated with ShinyHunters-style operations where compromised credentials are abused.
Detects successful authentication to administrative identity provider consoles that are flagged by identity-provider risk engines as anomalous (e.g., unfamiliar location, new device, or suspicious sign-in properties). This pattern monitors for potential account takeovers or compromised insider activity targeting critical administrative infrastructure, as observed in attacks utilizing recruited or purchased credentials.
Detects inbound email or ticketing messages containing extortion language (such as payment deadlines, leak-site references, and data-shredding threats) specifically directed at high-value internal targets like executives, security teams, and legal departments. This pattern is consistent with the ShinyHunters 'pay-or-leak' extortion model.
Detects the installation or first execution of common remote monitoring and management (RMM) software, specifically AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or ScreenConnect, shortly after an identity change or MFA reset event, indicative of social engineering vishing-to-remote-access techniques often employed by threat actors such as Scattered Spider (UNC3944).
