Detects unauthorized modifications to the .ssh/authorized_keys file. Such changes are often performed by adversaries to establish persistence by ensuring their own public keys allow them remote access to the host. The rule filters out known configuration management and system tools to reduce noise.
This rule detects potential container escape and privilege escalation attempts within a Kubernetes environment by monitoring for the creation of privileged pods, dangerous host mounts (such as /var/run/docker.sock or hostPath root mounts), and the use of escape-oriented utilities like nsenter or chroot, or access to the host's filesystem via /proc/1/root.
Detects anomalous lateral movement via Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) by identifying three high-risk patterns: rapid RDP fan-out to multiple destination hosts from a single account, RDP access to sensitive servers from unauthorized source hosts, and RDP sessions followed by the execution of known post-exploitation or credential-theft tooling on the destination host.
Detects the use of the built-in Windows utility rundll32.exe to execute the MiniDump functionality within comsvcs.dll against the Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS). This technique is a common method for attackers to bypass signature-based security tools and obtain sensitive credentials from memory.
Detects network traffic indicators associated with Cobalt Strike beaconing activity, specifically focusing on common default or near-default Malleable C2 HTTP profile patterns. This includes hardcoded URI paths often used in default configurations (e.g., jQuery library names, pixel gifs) and specific combinations of HTTP headers and user-agent strings commonly observed in adversary C2 frameworks.
Detects the loading of known vulnerable kernel drivers commonly used for Bring Your Own Vulnerable Driver (BYOVD) attacks, followed within 15 minutes by administrative attempts to stop, delete, or kill common security product processes or services.
Detects PowerShell execution that modifies the 'jquery.mousewheel-3.0.6.pack.js' file while simultaneously attempting to timestomp file metadata or utilizing specific obfuscation markers identified in webshell deployment patterns.
Detects repeated attempts to perform IIS 8.3 tilde short-filename enumeration. This reconnaissance technique exploits the legacy DOS 8.3 file naming convention to identify the existence and naming of files or directories on a Microsoft IIS web server.
Detects browser-side malicious activity involving communication with Cloudflare Workers (workers.dev) endpoints typically associated with C2 beaconing (relays, ICE, socket) or the retrieval of trojanized JavaScript dependencies like 'jquery.mousewheel' which often precede second-stage agent execution.
Detects the creation of an ASPX file within a member file upload directory, followed immediately by the execution of 'cmd.exe' by the 'w3wp.exe' web server process. This behavior is indicative of a web shell being uploaded and used to execute arbitrary commands on the server.
