This rule monitors PowerShell Script Block Logging (Event ID 4104) for command patterns indicative of Antimalware Scan Interface (AMSI) or Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) bypass techniques. These include reflective manipulation of AMSI internals (e.g., AmsiUtils, amsiInitFailed), DynamicMethod IL code generation for malicious hooks, and attempts to suppress ETW logging via the PSEtwLog provider.
This rule monitors PowerShell Script Block Logging (Event ID 4104) for command patterns indicative of Antimalware Scan Interface (AMSI) or Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) bypass techniques. This rule detects the execution of specific suspicious files (nvdaHelperRemote.dll or Mixed Reality.exe) when they originate from within the 'Windows Media Player' directory. Such behavior is indicative of potential DLL search order hijacking or masquerading attempts, where an adversary places malicious files in a predictable location to intercept execution.
Detects the creation of specific file paths or ZIP archives in the user profile indicative of the GIFTEDCROOK information stealer staging collected data for exfiltration.
Detects the execution of the 'unshare' utility on Linux systems using command-line arguments that indicate the creation of new namespaces, particularly targeting user and network namespace isolation. Adversaries often use 'unshare' to bypass security controls or to facilitate container escapes by isolating processes from the host's environment.
This rule detects the use of specific Linux utilities often associated with local privilege escalation or container escape techniques. It monitors for commands involving 'unshare' with flags that allow user or network namespace manipulation, network traffic control ('tc') commands specifically interacting with 'pedit' or 'qdisc' which can be abused for kernel-level manipulation, 'ip netns' commands to manage network namespaces, and execution of known exploit-related filenames like 'pedit_cow_demo' or 'packet_edit_meme'.
Detects the execution of a malicious PowerShell loader associated with the UAC-0226 threat actor. The loader employs a 60-second sleep delay using the Start-Sleep cmdlet to evade automated sandbox analysis before proceeding to reflectively load the GIFTEDCROOK payload from a file located in C:\ProgramData\WC3.
Detects file access (open or read) events targeting documents with file paths matching known UAC-0226 Ukrainian military-themed lures. These documents are often associated with weaponized RAR archives, targeting sensitive military information such as reconnaissance platoon records or military registry data.
Detects the use of System.Reflection.Emit.DynamicMethod and ILGenerator in PowerShell 7 scripts to perform an AMSI bypass. The attack works by emitting IL opcodes to directly modify the internal 's_amsiInitFailed' field within the AmsiUtils class, bypassing the initonly constraint to disable AMSI scanning.
This rule detects unauthorized read access to sensitive credential stores (KeePass .kdbx) and VPN configuration files (OpenVPN, Cisco AnyConnect, WireGuard) by processes that are not recognized credential or VPN management software. It specifically monitors for processes exhibiting suspicious lineage, such as those spawned by PowerShell or running from the C:\ProgramData directory, which is a common technique used by attackers to hide malicious activity.
