Detects the creation of virtual machines or the attachment of virtual hard disks (VHDs) using Hyper-V management tools, PowerShell, or Windows Disk Management utilities. This activity is often associated with efforts to bypass endpoint security monitoring by executing payloads within an unmanaged guest VM environment.
Detects the creation or modification of the 'Debugger' registry value under the 'Image File Execution Options' (IFEO) key. This technique is often used by adversaries to establish persistence, achieve privilege escalation, or hijack the execution of specific applications, including security tools.
Detects the systematic disabling or termination of security products and auditing tools on Windows systems, including Microsoft Defender, Sysmon, Filebeat, and WAF logging services. The rule triggers on process execution patterns associated with command-line tampering, service control manager manipulation, registry modifications, and the execution of specific batch scripts designed to impair defenses.
Detects anomalous post-compromise activity associated with Browser-in-the-Browser (BitB) attacks or general credential theft. Specifically, it monitors for browser processes spawning suspicious child processes (e.g., cmd.exe, powershell.exe, mshta.exe) that are typically used for payload delivery, and unauthorized access to browser-stored credential files (e.g., 'Login Data') by non-browser processes.
This rule monitors for the execution and network activity of known data exfiltration tools such as WinSCP, rclone, and MegaSync. It also tracks the creation of configuration files associated with these tools and monitors DNS requests and browser navigation to known cloud storage and file-sharing destinations. This behavior is indicative of data staging and unauthorized exfiltration.
Detects modifications to the WDigest UseLogonCredential registry key, which enables the caching of plaintext credentials in LSASS memory. This is a common post-exploitation technique used to facilitate credential theft.
This rule detects potential re-compromise attempts by monitoring for access, file creation, or process execution associated with a set of known malicious web shell files. It correlates IIS web server logs (HTTP POST requests to shell files), EDR file modification events, and EDR process spawning events from common web server binaries (w3wp.exe, coldfusion.exe, jrun.exe) to identify persistence remaining after remediation.
This rule detects potential tampering with security software processes and services, as well as the execution of suspicious batch scripts (i.bat). It identifies when administrative tools like sc.exe, taskkill.exe, or net.exe are used to stop or delete security agents such as Sysmon, Filebeat, SentinelAgent, or antivirus services. It also monitors for the execution of 'i.bat' via command shell, which is commonly associated with malicious automation or persistence.
Detects attempts to disable or tamper with Windows Defender via command-line utilities, PowerShell scripts, or registry modifications. This includes stopping services (sc/net), modifying Defender preferences (Set-MpPreference), and tampering with policy registry keys.
Correlates the BackgroundFix script execution with the unauthorized dropping and unpacking of malicious browser extensions into Chrome/Edge local app data paths. Specifically, it detects file creation events in browser extension directories when initiated by 'wscript.exe'.
