This rule detects the use of Rclone for cloud file synchronization or configuration file creation on endpoints that have shown recent activity related to QEMU virtualization. The detection correlates process execution or file creation events involving Rclone with prior QEMU execution within a 24-hour window, which may indicate an adversary using virtualization to stage or exfiltrate data.
Detects the execution of MeshCentral agent commands, specifically the 'RunCommand' functionality, which can be used to stage payloads or execute unauthorized commands on compromised systems. This detection monitors both process execution events on endpoints and generic syslog data.
Detects the use of the native Windows curl.exe utility to download a .zip file from an external URL, followed by the creation of that file on the disk. This pattern is associated with the Potemkin Loader which uses this technique to fetch RMM components, effectively bypassing PowerShell-based detection mechanisms for file downloads.
Detects attempts to modify or delete Conditional Access Policies in Microsoft Graph. Adversaries may attempt to alter or remove Conditional Access Policies to bypass security controls and gain unauthorized access or persistence.
Detects the execution of Node.js silently using 'conhost --headless', a technique used by EtherRAT and other malware to run malicious JavaScript payloads without displaying a console window to the user.
Detects the use of the Program Compatibility Assistant (pcalua.exe) to proxy the execution of mshta.exe, a technique used by ClickFix loaders to execute remote HTA payloads while evading process-based detections.
Detects the creation or modification of a registry run key that uses a name similar to '.NET Runtime Optimization Service' and points to a suspicious location within 'C:\ProgramData\'. This technique is often used by adversaries to establish persistence on a system by masquerading as legitimate software.
This rule detects network connections to specific domains known to be associated with malicious activity or to a suspicious API pattern often used by malware for command and control. The domains 'openanyworddocument.com', 'kittyfreespace.com', 'searchdocumentsfree.com', 'autoupdatet.com', 'autoupdaters.com', and 'autoupdatethis.com' have been observed in various campaigns. The regex pattern '/api/(init|cl)/[0-9a-fA-F]{8}-[0-9a-fA-F]{4}-[0-9a-fA-F]{4}-[0-9a-fA-F]{4}-[0-9a-fA-F]{12}' targets a common API endpoint structure used for initialization or client communication by certain types of malware, often involving a GUID.
Detects when an actor searches Slack audit logs, which could indicate an attacker attempting to understand logging capabilities or evade detection. Also detects bulk session resets initiated by an administrator, which may be a response to an account takeover or an attacker attempting to evict legitimate users from their sessions.
Detects the execution of the 'whoami' command when it is base64 encoded in the process command line. This technique is often used by adversaries to discover system user information while attempting to evade simple string-based detections.
