This rule detects suspicious command-line activity involving 'cmd.exe' that echoes content into a batch file within the 'C:\Windows\TEMP\' directory and subsequently deletes it. This pattern can be indicative of various malicious activities, including temporary file creation for execution, evasion, or cleanup after execution.
Detects a specific two-step HTTP pattern characteristic of OysterLoader's initial C2 communication. The malware first sends a registration request containing a 'WordPressAgent' User-Agent string, followed by a login request with a 'FingerPrint' User-Agent string to the same destination. This version checks for the User-Agent strings in the 'AdditionalFields' column.
Detects the creation of a mutex with a persistent suffix '!&fse?%AS!'. This string has been observed across multiple versions and campaigns of OysterLoader (also known as Broomstick/CleanUp).
Detects a specific persistence mechanism where a scheduled task named 'TPMProfiler' is used to run QEMU, establishing an SSH backdoor. This technique was identified by Huntress in post-exploitation activity related to SolarWinds WHD exploitation.
Detects the specific process chain: wscript.exe -> powershell.exe -> MSBuild.exe, which is characteristic of the SHADOW#REACTOR malware campaign. This chain indicates the use of scripting interpreters (Wscript, PowerShell) to launch the Microsoft Build Engine (MSBuild) for potentially malicious code execution.
Detects the use of curl.exe to upload files to the temp.sh service while simultaneously passing the resulting temp.sh URL within the User-Agent string to a C2 server. This specific exfiltration and beaconing TTP was observed in the Notepad++ supply chain attack.
Detects a sequence of events where a Protected Process Light (PPL) security process attempts to load a DLL from a non-standard path and then terminates shortly after. This pattern is a strong indicator of the EDRStartupHinder technique, where a critical system DLL is redirected to an invalid copy, causing the PPL process to fail its integrity check and self-terminate.
This detection identifies potential usage of the Naabu port scanner by searching for its process execution or its specific network user-agent string. Naabu is a fast port scanner that can be used for network reconnaissance. This search leverages the Endpoint and Web CIM data models.
