Detects the creation or modification of Windows Registry Run keys by processes that are not part of the standard Microsoft Windows installation, suggesting potential unauthorized persistence mechanisms.
Detects execution of common Windows network configuration utilities (ipconfig, arp, route) by known command-line and script interpreters. This pattern is indicative of an attacker performing reconnaissance to gather information about the host's network settings, interfaces, and connectivity.
This rule detects cross-process operations (such as memory access or thread injection) initiated by processes that are not signed by known, trusted vendors, or that do not reside in protected system directories. This behavior is a common indicator of process injection techniques used to evade security controls.
Detects the execution of known critical system processes (e.g., svchost.exe, lsass.exe) from directories other than the standard Windows System32 or SysWOW64 paths. This behavior is indicative of masquerading, where an adversary attempts to evade detection by naming malicious files after legitimate system binaries.
Detects the use of the Windows command-line utility 'reg.exe' to query sensitive registry keys or paths commonly associated with credential storage, such as SAM, SECURITY, LSA secrets, or autologon configurations. This activity is often indicative of reconnaissance or credential harvesting attempts.
This rule monitors DNS queries for potential exfiltration or C2 communication channels. It flags DNS queries that exceed 100 characters in length or contain labels with at least 30 alphanumeric characters, excluding activity from common web browsers.
Detects the execution of SSH or Plink processes with command-line arguments indicating local, remote, or dynamic port forwarding. Adversaries may use port forwarding to tunnel traffic through a compromised host to bypass network segment restrictions or access internal resources.
Detects potential WMI persistence mechanisms by monitoring the execution of 'mofcomp.exe' by non-Microsoft signed binaries, the creation of MOF files in suspicious user-writable directories (Temp, AppData, etc.), and the suspicious execution of 'scrcons.exe', which is the WMI permanent event consumer process.
Detects attempts to terminate security-related processes using taskkill, tskill, or PowerShell's Stop-Process cmdlet. This is a common technique used by adversaries to disable endpoint detection and response (EDR) or antivirus (AV) agents on a compromised system to evade detection.
Detects the execution of command-line archiving utilities (7z, rar, tar) invoked by common scripting engines (PowerShell, CMD, Python, etc.) targeting typical staging directories (Temp, Public, AppData, ProgramData). This pattern is frequently observed during the data staging phase of an attack, where adversaries encrypt or compress gathered files for eventual exfiltration.
