Detects the use of wmic.exe to execute commands or retrieve OS information on remote systems by monitoring for the '/node:' flag in command lines. The rule excludes local host references (localhost, 127.0.0.1) to focus on remote management activity that may indicate lateral movement or remote code execution.
This rule detects PowerShell activity where scripts or commands are used to interact with the Windows clipboard, such as retrieving text or data. This is often indicative of reconnaissance or data theft attempts, where an adversary aims to capture credentials, secrets, or sensitive information stored in the clipboard by a user.
Detects the use of regsvr32.exe to execute remote scriptlets, often via HTTP/S or FTP, which is a common technique used to bypass application control and execute malicious code without touching the disk or properly registering a COM object (Squiblydoo).
Detects instances where common Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) launch suspicious child processes often associated with malicious command execution, such as command shells, scripting interpreters, or system utilities.
Detects suspicious activity related to the Print Spooler service (spoolsv.exe), specifically focusing on the spawning of known command-line interpreters (cmd.exe, powershell.exe, rundll32.exe) by spoolsv.exe, as well as the creation or modification of DLL files within the system print spool drivers directory by processes other than spoolsv.exe. This activity is often associated with privilege escalation and persistence techniques involving print spooler service abuse.
Detects anomalous network scanning behavior from a Qualys scanner towards Domain Controller ports. The rule monitors CommonSecurityLog and NetworkSessions for high volumes of connection attempts (more than 50 within one hour) targeting critical Active Directory ports (88, 135, 389, 445, 636, 3268, 3269). This activity may indicate a scanner configuration error, a compromised scanner, or an adversary attempting to map the environment while masquerading as a security tool.
Detects high-volume, multi-port connections from a single source to a domain controller, which is indicative of vulnerability scanning activity such as Nessus. The rule monitors for a large volume of connection attempts across multiple sensitive ports (e.g., 88, 135, 389, 445, 464, 636, 3268, 3269) within a short 5-minute window.
Detects anomalous authentication failure patterns against Azure AD Service Principals from a single IP address. The rule identifies potential brute force attacks (high volume of failures) or service principal enumeration (multiple distinct service principals targeted).
Detects suspicious installation attempts of ManageEngine Endpoint Central (ADSelfService.exe) potentially associated with Prinz Eugen ransomware. The rule looks for silent installation parameters or execution initiated by PowerShell or Cmd.exe, which could indicate malicious deployment.
