Detects high-frequency authentication failure events targeting multiple unique user accounts from the same source IP address within a 10-minute window. This behavior is indicative of password spraying or credential stuffing attacks against Azure Active Directory (Microsoft Entra ID). The rule specifically monitors for common error codes related to incorrect passwords or account lockout conditions.
Detects successful sign-ins by accounts that appear to be Azure AD Connect synchronization service accounts (e.g., 'MSOL_', 'Sync_', 'AADConnect') but are not initiating from the expected Microsoft Azure Active Directory Connect application. This may indicate an adversary attempting to use these highly privileged service accounts for unauthorized access or lateral movement.
This rule detects successful additions or updates to service principal credentials or application certificates/secrets within Azure AD. This activity can indicate persistence establishment by an attacker who has compromised an account with sufficient permissions to manipulate application identities.
Detects access to sensitive Domain DNS objects in Active Directory, specifically targeting properties associated with domain controller replication metadata or sensitive object attributes. This activity is often used for reconnaissance or to facilitate further attacks against domain infrastructure.
Detects instances where Python-based applications or web frameworks (uvicorn, gunicorn, langflow) initiate external network requests using 'curl' or 'wget' to download files. The rule specifically looks for command-line arguments involving IP-based URLs and indicators of script execution, shell access, or known cryptocurrency miners.
Detects high-frequency network connection attempts targeting common ManageEngine service ports (8443, 9251, 9261, 8080). This behavior is indicative of potential network reconnaissance, service scanning, or automated exploitation attempts.
Detects the creation of files with suspicious names (e.g., .xlamb, lambsys) in the /var/tmp directory, initiated by common command-line interpreters or network transfer utilities. This behavior is often indicative of malware deployment or staging in a Linux environment.
Detects the creation of a file named 'NTDS.zip', which is a common naming convention used by adversaries when compressing the Active Directory database (NTDS.dit) for staging and subsequent exfiltration.
Detects post-compromise Active Directory reconnaissance activities using net.exe or wmic.exe to enumerate domain users, groups, computers, and sessions. The rule identifies anomalous behavior by monitoring for at least 3 distinct reconnaissance categories triggered by common scripting interpreters (PowerShell, cmd, pythonw, or node.exe) within a 5-minute window.
This rule detects when the Internet Information Services (IIS) worker process (w3wp.exe) accesses sensitive files such as 'web.config', 'applicationHost.config', or 'win.ini'. Unauthorized access to these files by the IIS process can be an indicator of a web shell or other malicious post-exploitation activity attempting to steal credentials, application secrets, or system configuration information.
