Detects DNS requests and responses linked to Sunburst backdoor.
Adversaries may create an encrypted RAR archive with specific compression level.
This rule detects unusual child processes spawned from critical Windows system binaries (svchost.exe, lsass.exe, csrss.exe, winlogon.exe, system.exe). Specifically, it looks for these parent processes launching command-line interpreters or scripting engines like PowerShell, cmd, Python, or Java, excluding common legitimate child processes such as conhost.exe, csc.exe, taskkill.exe, and services.exe. A count of 2 or more such events within an hour on the same computer triggers an alert, indicating potential malicious activity like privilege escalation or execution.
Detects suspicious patterns of driver loading activity, specifically looking for multiple driver load attempts (sc create, sc start, net start, wmic service) involving .sys, kernel, or driver files from non-System32 directories or within the Temp directory. This pattern can indicate an attempt to install a rootkit or other malicious kernel-mode software.
Detects command-line activity associated with the Print Spooler service (`printspooler` or `spoolsv.exe`) that also contains keywords indicative of exploitation or privilege escalation (e.g., `exploit`, `privilege`, `admin`). This rule aims to identify attempts to leverage Print Spooler vulnerabilities for privilege escalation.
This rule detects the execution of common command-line interpreters (powershell.exe, cmd.exe, cscript.exe) or generic executables from suspicious user-writable directories such as 'Temp', 'AppData', 'Downloads', or 'Public'. It specifically excludes 'msbuild.exe' and 'dotnet.exe' to reduce false positives. A high count (3 or more) of such events within an hour for a given computer and user is flagged as an anomaly, indicating potential malicious activity like malware execution or persistence.
Detects MSBuild project files created beneath C:\ProgramData, an uncommon location that has been abused by threat actors to stage malicious project files for code execution.
Detects outbound network activity to the known malicious domain sfrclak.com or IP address 142.11.206.73. This behavior may indicate malware beaconing, command-and-control communication, or interaction with attacker-controlled infrastructure.
Detects calls to NtAllocateVirtualMemory originating from scripting engines or binaries executing from temporary user-controlled locations. This behavior is commonly associated with reflective loading, shellcode execution, and in-memory malware.
Detects execution of DWAgent from download or temporary directories rather than standard installation locations, potentially indicating unauthorized remote management activity.
